Proxmox Directory for Data/Media? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Brko7 · 2023-10-26 14:06 Hello everybody! I got an Intel NUC server with only 2 disks, 1TB each. I did a default Proxmox install on one disk, which will be used for Proxmox and Plex/ARR CT. just do the manual disk formatting commands in CLI to EXT4, mount it to the Proxmox host, and then Mount Point it to the CT? 1. make a new Proxmox Disk Directory in GUI and do a Mount Point to the Plex/ARR CT or 2. just do the manual disk formatting commands in CLI to EXT4, mount it to the Proxmox host, and then Mount Point it to the CT? What would the difference be in approaches 1 and 2? Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- junialter · 2023-10-26 18:59 I assume with "Proxmox Disk Directory" you mean the menu item "Directory" in "Datacenter - Storage - Add". This menu entry does not prepare a disk for usage but will just make a directory of your choice available for use in proxmox. Having two 1 TB disks isn't the ideal setup IMO as it is generally a good idea to separate the VM data from the OS data. This way you would have a OS disk of 1 TB on which you might also place some ISO but the rest would be wasted. You could use ZFS stripe mode over both disks but that adds some risk to it. I suggest you get a smaller SSD for OS and ISO only and the other one put the rest on.
