Heimdall -> Homepage reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ooviixoo · 2023-10-26 03:07 \^\^ Upgrade from heimdall -> homepage over the last couple of days. Couldn't be happier! Now I just need to learn how to write custom services for some of my components. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -SHINSTER007 · 2023-10-26 04:00 what do you have controlling kasa? HA? I have a tp-link smart plug and would like that same set up but havn't delved into it yet ---------------------------------------------------------------------- canoxen · 2023-10-26 04:06 Make the move to HA, it's not a black hole of a hobby at allllll. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ooviixoo · 2023-10-26 04:07 It was on my whiteboard... I hate your face. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- canoxen · 2023-10-26 04:11 Understandable. I felt kinda bad even saying it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ooviixoo · 2023-10-26 04:12 I don't really hate your face... just a fun thing to say.... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- canoxen · 2023-10-26 04:17 No hard feelings here! *#IfTheShoeFits* ---------------------------------------------------------------------- getgoingfast · 2023-10-26 04:32 Looks neat. I wonderful if you can full stats off of Pfsense like you have done here with OPNsense. Did you install any extra services to make it happen? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BandOfBroskis · 2023-10-26 05:51 Cool. I'm currently evaluating Homepage and Dashy so this was timely to see as I go through the process. 👍 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sevynz13 · 2023-10-26 07:28 Yeh Heimdall kinda sucks. No grouping. Depending on window size icon are in different spots. It's supposed to be quick access but I always have to spend 1-3 seconds finding the icon. Will be swapping when I get the time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- root-node · 2023-10-26 08:05 https://gethomepage.dev/v0.7.3/widgets/services/pfsense/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MF0005 · 2023-10-26 08:12 i really like the look of homepage but i hate that everything has to be defined via yaml. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The_Basic_Shapes · 2023-10-26 08:50 This is glorious. Just curious, why do you have both Traefik reverse proxy and NGINX? NGINX is what I use for reverse proxy but I have not heard of Traefik ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Savancik · 2023-10-26 09:47 Warning, unpopular opinion I setup several dashboards over the years, wrote two myself. In the end grafana will do for long term diagnostics with alert manager and gf for alerts :P Look pretty but I don't see much use. Loads for far too long to be start page. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sanshinron · 2023-10-26 10:33 Traefik is a better reverse proxy once you understand it and plays better with docker. I have it reconfiguring itself based on docker compose labels so all config is done in docker compose. It's also easier to proxy non-http stuff and even UDP. Has a nice dashboard so I always see what's up. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Reasonable-Ladder300 · 2023-10-26 10:59 It’s great especially when you use auto service discovery based on docker labels. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- isleepbad · 2023-10-26 11:34 I wish you had the option: 1. Add services via UI 2. Individual yaml files for each service Then I could just use something like ansible or Terraform to add and customise each service ---------------------------------------------------------------------- badi95 · 2023-10-26 12:19 I'm currently in the process of doing the same migration. One thing I'm really missing from Heimdall is the ability to set the background color of each card. I use that to distinguish which machine each service is running on. I've put in a feature request to Homepage for the ability. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MegaVolti · 2023-10-26 12:34 Sounds like this might even be reasonably easy to implement. Maybe try building a PR yourself? I have only very basic programming skills, have never worked with JavaScript before at all, and still managed to get a few features implemented/added as well, only took an afternoon or so to get into it :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MegaVolti · 2023-10-26 12:37 How can you cope with all this asymmetry? Maybe I'm a bit OCDish but I went to great lengths ( ;) ) to make sure that all my service categories have the same number of entries so that everything looks nice and neat. To make this easier, I use a secondary tab, the primary (symmetric) one has all my important stuff plus a little of the lesser important ones to keep the symmetry, the secondary tab has the rest in a completely unordered way (but usually also un-seen since they are rarely ever needed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- touche112 · 2023-10-26 12:40 Agree. I do enough yaml with Home Assistant, I don't want to fuck with it on my dashboard too lol ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Initial-Repeat9146 · 2023-10-26 13:14 > Warning, unpopular opinion > > I setup several dashboards over the years, wrote two myself. > > In the end grafana will do for long term diagnostics with alert manager and gf for alerts :P > > Look pretty but I don't see much use. > > Loads for far too long to be start page. I'm also of this opinion. I used grafana for many things. I still like having a dashboard as I offer services in my shared home for guests. So when they login, they are forced into a captive portal which has a dashboard with services they can use (Movies, Mail, Search engines, etc). But for myself just having Grafana with the notifications is super helpful to know when something misbehaves ---------------------------------------------------------------------- krimsonstudios · 2023-10-26 13:18 Totally agree. I know my way around yaml and have gotten homepage up and running without issues, but sometimes I'd like to be able to just quickly add a new service so I have the shortcut on hand, without stopping what I'm doing to SSH into a server and manually edit a config file. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ooviixoo · 2023-10-26 13:47 Using Traefik for SSL termination, NGINX deployed as a simple artifact repository. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ooviixoo · 2023-10-26 13:47 Been doing Ansible so long now, yaml is just a thing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ooviixoo · 2023-10-26 13:49 Just used the out of the box widgets -> [https://gethomepage.dev/v0.7. 4/widgets/](https://gethomepage.dev/v0.7.4/widgets/). Gonna have to dig in and figure out how to write my own though, have some that I want to see metrics, especially my Emporia Vue power monitors. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ooviixoo · 2023-10-26 13:50 It's a placeholder to remind me that I always have work to do in my homelab =) Actually I'll probably have to write my own to get metrics from those devices... project for another day. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ooviixoo · 2023-10-26 13:52 Oh for sure, my OCD is triggered as well... gives me long term goals of getting all those columns aligned by deploying the appropriate tools... heh. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ooviixoo · 2023-10-26 13:58 One other thing to share, I ran across this repo while I was looking for all the service icons: [https://github.com/walkxcode/Dashboard- Icons](https://github.com/walkxcode/Dashboard-Icons) \~ 1300 png icons / \~ 900 svg icons Was amazed, think I only have to go "find" icons for less than 5 services. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- badi95 · 2023-10-26 14:10 Thanks for the suggestion, I might give it a shot when I have some free time to get into it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lohmatij · 2023-10-26 15:06 You can also use docker labels ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jakegh · 2023-10-26 15:09 I'd like to *use* Home Assistant for my homelab dashboard, get rid of an unnecessary service in dashy, but its GUI dash config is notoriously terrible too. It'll improve eventually, I suppose. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BlueEye9234 · 2023-10-26 15:11 Is there anyway to make it not overwrite links? I tested homepage out yesterday night and trying to pass "jelly.home" just gets written as home.home/jellyfin which is not where it's at (home.home is the DNS I set for homepage though). It seems geared to only linking to things as /servicename when I have been putting everything under it's own local DNS name. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- itguy327 · 2023-10-26 15:19 I use gitea with drone ci. Then make yaml changes and commit to repo. So far so good. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Woke_killa · 2023-10-26 15:24 Try Dashy. It has more visual options, such as embedding Grafana charts. It seems more future-proof to me. I've been using the Homepage Dashboard for almost a year, and it's nice. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gu1d0mar · 2023-10-26 16:50 Was about to answer just that. Yaml is on the list of DevOps growing pains I'm facing right now. Now at least I got something I like to use the Yaml I'm learning. 😁 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MF0005 · 2023-10-26 18:23 I don’t really have a problem with Yaml (working with k8s alot) but the whole process itself. Having to connecting to the server and directly editing the files for essentially bookmarks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheePorkchopExpress · 2023-10-26 18:31 JOIN US! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CactusBoyScout · 2023-10-26 18:57 Biggest downside to me is that Homepage doesn't have any built-in authentication at all. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- davidedpg10 · 2023-10-26 19:32 I just do it through docker-compose labels. I'm already doing it for Traefik so it's really easy to add a couple more ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UntouchedWagons · 2023-10-26 19:57 I put my services.yaml file in a configmap that's mounted by the container in my deployment. Oddly if I update the config map the container doesn't see the update so I have to delete the pod before applying any changes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- fatalskeptic · 2023-10-26 20:36 Same. I have up on this. Very time consuming and complicated to figure out YAML coding. I’m not a coder unlike most Homepage users ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chandz05 · 2023-10-26 20:52 Nice! I’ve generated key and secret but I keep getting an http error? I thought that plugin didn’t work or something, all the others work for me ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2023-10-26 22:12 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ooviixoo · 2023-10-26 22:21 Spent a couple of hours today standing up Dashy... the yaml config were nearly in line with Homepage for most things... definitely a fan of Dashy too. Now to figure out which one gets a permanent spot in Portainer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vlinux · 2023-10-27 00:06 I switched to Homepage recently too after Heimdall's plugin update feature stopped working properly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LastElf · 2023-10-27 01:20 I use HA as my homepage equivalent now. Has full esx/docker/kuma monitoring dashboards built into it and glances getting system stats, with links to each service if I forget what port it's mapped to. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SillyLilBear · 2023-10-27 02:02 Homepage is awesome ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KingQuin · 2023-10-27 03:21 \+1 for Dashy. Love it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hotsoup1337 · 2023-10-27 03:28 that looks absolutely amazing, do you have any tips on how to do that smooth sailing? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- volrod64 · 2023-10-27 07:58 Here come dashy :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MF0005 · 2023-10-27 10:56 Yeah thats default behavior. After changing configmaps you need to restart the relevant deployment/pods since kubernetes doesn’t recognizes it as a change. Took me awhile to figure out too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chandz05 · 2023-10-27 12:29 Thanks! It was a lot of YAML fighting xD and just figuring out and playing with the configs in my spare time, trying to see what works for me and what doesn't. The Homepage docs are super helpful ---------------------------------------------------------------------- massHunter · 2023-10-27 14:55 Install a Code Server container and bind the path to the config files for homepage. You then expose the code server on hopepage. It makes your life a lot easier. No need to ssh and nano .yml files anymore. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kaikidan · 2023-10-28 00:03 How you did the calendar? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chandz05 · 2023-10-28 00:21 It's just the default Homepage calendar widget [https://gethomepage.dev/v0.7.4/widgets/services/calendar/](https://ge thomepage.dev/v0.7.4/widgets/services/calendar/) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kaikidan · 2023-10-28 00:29 does this go into widgets.yaml or does it go as a widget under sonarr/radarr entry? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chandz05 · 2023-10-28 00:40 Yeah it's a widget for a service, so it goes into services.yaml. I made a calendar group and service and added the widget to it with all the integrations added.
