Looking for a self-hosted Dealership Management System reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bhthllj · 2023-10-25 12:15 Hello everyone, I'm looking for a self-hosted solution for a used car dealership management system. I realize, this is a rather specific need. Essentially these points should be covered: * Process Deals. * Print contracts, reports, and window stickers. * Maintain inventory and customer data. If there's no exact match, could you guys point me to similar products that a bloody beginner could use without breaking the bank? Thanks in advance ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Legitimate_Farm_3095 · 2023-10-25 12:38 who's maintaining this for your business? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bhthllj · 2023-10-25 12:47 I am not the owner, that would be my cousin, I would maintain it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- finlan101 · 2023-10-25 13:17 closest I can think of is erpnext or odoo ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Aud3o · 2023-10-25 13:40 This is wildly unwise. Unless you're willing to be on the hook for when things go wrong (either technically, administratively, compliancy or financially) and be the tech support on the most inconvenient of times, just pay a service to do this for you. This is one of those 'cry once, buy once' situations. Not worth the risk, especially when it's for a main source of income. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BillyBork · 2023-10-25 15:19 If in the United States, new federal laws were recently passed that govern how car dealerships handle client/customer info. I’d advise everyone in that space to familiarize yourself with them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jmeador42 · 2023-10-25 16:37 A "bloody beginner" should not be managing something of this nature. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bhthllj · 2023-10-25 16:41 Who said I was a beginner? And a bloody one at that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ProperProfessional · 2023-10-25 16:45 MSAccess database... got it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thatcompguyza · 2023-10-25 18:02 Why no Excel? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- apbt-dad · 2023-10-25 18:55 Your post does mention "bloody beginner" and /u/jmedor42 didn't say it was you (and neither did your post). xD ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bhthllj · 2023-10-25 19:11 Yes you are right, I did write that. Sorry for being brash @jmeador42. I did not express myself clearly. I am somewhat experienced in that regard, my cousin, on the other hand, is not that tech savvy. I shall edit the main post as the main objective would not be fiscal management, but rather item tracking and management. Just a platform to have an overview of the items on sale and their attributes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Overdrivespaceman · 2023-10-25 20:29 QuickBooks is like 9 bucks, just get that ---------------------------------------------------------------------- beje_ro · 2023-10-25 21:04 +1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SwingPrestigious695 · 2023-10-25 23:06 Best practice: Excel is not for data storage but for simple reports based on the data. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SwingPrestigious695 · 2023-10-25 23:07 DMS software is always a subscription and pricey at that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Aud3o · 2023-10-26 00:24 As expected, if you’re good at something don’t do it for free. And with extra responsibilities such as in this case, the price quickly rises. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jared252016 · 2023-10-26 00:28 I hate to say it, but I think WordPress may be your best option. Out of the box it can't do what you want, but you might be able to find inexpensive plugins that can add the functionality. For example: - WooCommerce does basic inventory - There's a POS addon for WooCommerce that can let you process transactions (they can be done separately). It even can print receipts. - Customer data could be maintained in SuiteCRM and connected to WordPress via API calls. Or stay within WordPress with WP-CRM - Contracts could be a page (or multiple) serving as templates that you could clone and edit for each customer. WP Forms Signature Contract Addon lets you automate the process of getting signatures too. I'm unsure how it does it, but it looks like the more expensive plans come with 100+ free contract templates. The tricky part is the labels, but you *might* be able to get the WooCommerce PDF Invoices, Packing Slips, etc. plugin to do it if it supports templates. This is in no way a free option, but it's likely cheaper than the software designed for the task. I would estimate about $600-$1000/year for a WordPress setup that can do what you want. This of course would be an internal website and not attached to the public facing one, although you could, it opens up the potential to be hacked. It would let you show your inventory online though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Firenyth · 2023-10-26 02:33 not sure if it will meet your needs but you could check out snipe-it, its asset management software. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dudeskeeroo · 2023-10-26 04:07 Whoosh! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- smares21 · 2023-10-26 04:21 Excede DMS is self-hosted but definitely not free. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Idhyhacreatives · 2023-11-02 07:25 Hey, we have built something very recently (about a month back) which has everythign you need except 2nd point. Can resell the solution, lmk if you'd like a demo! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bhthllj · 2023-11-02 07:26 Alright, I’m intrigued. Is it suitable for the Swiss market? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Idhyhacreatives · 2023-11-02 07:29 Won't comment on that with surety, but hopefully it should be. We've built multiple features in it, maybe you'd like some cleaning up. Take a shot at it to see if the solution works for you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bhthllj · 2023-11-02 07:33 Alright, can I have some information on this? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Idhyhacreatives · 2023-11-02 07:34 I'll send over some screenshots in a while (the most relevant sections)
