Been looking for an option to consolidate my home setup a bit (GPON
terminal, media converter, router, old laptop repurposed as a home
server) and came across Banana Pi R3. The specs look like a dream
device: two SFP ports (replaces GPON and media converter given I can
find right modules), 2 GB RAM, quite powerful cpu. Price is ok too.
Anyone here has a hands on experience with this board? Almost looks
like too-good-to-be-true department.

I’m currently using one as my home router with their own 2.5GbE SFP-
RJ45 modules and it’s doing a decent job so far. Not that I’ve tested
it extensively, but I have it feeding a couple of switches and running
adguardhome.

I can try to answer questions where possible, though I have a separate
access point for WiFi so I can’t comment on the WiFi capabilities of
the board at the moment (I do have the full set of antennas so I guess
I should test it at some point)
