Synology Photos and File Duplication Question reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jdawggs316 · 2023-10-24 13:39 Does it make sense to have photos in Files Station and then duplicated in Synology Photos? I'm new to NAS in general and don't want to lose any photos in the event I uninstall Photos. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-24 13:49 /r/Synology? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- End-i · 2023-10-24 16:39 You should move your photos to synology photos. There is no benefit having 2 copies/duplicates. You can simply move the files without going through synology photos and even keeping your folder structure. It will index the files automatically. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mztiq · 2023-10-24 20:04 There's no good reason to have your photos as duplicates in Synology Photos and in "File Station" (Synology Photos puts your photos in `/volume1/photos` anyway). TO keep your important photos backed up you should check the [3-2-1 rule](https://www.backblaze.com/blog/the-3-2-1-backup-strategy/). It basically means you should always keep 3 copies of your important data, two of them local but on different media and one off-site. I keep important data on my NAS, an external SSD which is connected to my NAS and off-site.
