How do you setup Heimdall for use with both local access and Tailscale access? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zestyclose_Car1088 · 2023-10-24 11:49 Do you use a separate Heimdall container for use with Tailscale IP address? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GGGG1981GGGG · 2023-10-24 12:58 Set up pi-hole as your dns server and https://tailscale.com/kb/1019/subnets/#optional-route-dns-lookups-to- an-internal-dns-server Also you can set up an exit node https://tailscale.com/kb/1103/exit-nodes/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zestyclose_Car1088 · 2023-10-24 13:21 I have an exit node setup, but I can't access the local IP address when using exit node... What exactly do I need to setup in tailscale for using pihole as dns server? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GGGG1981GGGG · 2023-10-24 13:29 Set it up also as a subnet router. 1. Enable IP forwarding ``` echo 'net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1' | sudo tee -a /etc/sysctl.d/99-tailscale.conf echo 'net.ipv6.conf.all.forwarding = 1' | sudo tee -a /etc/sysctl.d/99-tailscale.conf sudo sysctl -p /etc/sysctl.d/99-tailscale.conf ``` 2. Advertise your subnet (in my case 192.168.0.0/24) ``` sudo tailscale up --advertise-routes=192.168.0.0/24 ``` 3. Enable subnet routes from the admin console https://login.tailscale.com/admin/machines ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GGGG1981GGGG · 2023-10-24 13:33 > What exactly do I need to setup in tailscale for using pihole as dns server? Uncheck "Override local DNS" and set an IP for your pi-hole https://login.tailscale.com/admin/dns ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zestyclose_Car1088 · 2023-10-24 14:29 Ok, I'll give it a shot. Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zestyclose_Car1088 · 2023-10-25 13:31 This worked perfectly, thank you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zestyclose_Car1088 · 2023-10-25 13:35 This not so much... any ideas? Steps so far: 1. on Tailscale DNS page put Tailscale IP address as a global nameserver and enabled "Override local DNS". 2. In the Pi-hole Admin page in Settings > DNS, selected permit all origins.
