Self hosted photos with auto pet naming? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- joelnodxd · 2023-10-24 11:24 I know self hosted photos is a common question, but is there actually one that can automatically assign names to an animal/pet? I have thousands of pictures of my cat and this feature is the only thing keeping me on Google photos at the moment. I've tried Synology Photos and Photoprism but both require manual naming/tagging as far as I can see. For reference, I have a Synology DS220+ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dotinho · 2023-10-24 11:51 You should try Immich [here](https://github.com/immich-app/immich) You can also install via docker on you Synology. Give a nice work on tag people, I don’t know about tag dog names. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-24 12:16 > I don’t know about tag dog names. Cats! OP wants cats not dogs!!1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dotinho · 2023-10-24 12:18 Sorry, my bad. About tagging, immich does much better even then PhotoView. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-24 12:20 I was obviously joking Yes OP should try immich atleast, but i cant imagine much work has been put into AI recognition of cats... and if someone is doing it its probably not a free selfhosted project. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dotinho · 2023-10-24 12:23 I don’t have any cats or dogs in my Library, but I got chicken and squirrels (identified and cat) https://ibb.co/3CkH6Js https://ibb.co/bXF0vrx ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-24 12:25 The famous rare catsquirrel! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MrInterBugs · 2023-10-24 12:39 Immich tags my puppy correctly, I need to merge them sometimes into each other as it doesn't always identify it as the same dog but still nearly as good as Google photos. I imagine a cat would be nearly as good. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-24 13:20 AI doesnt make mistakes. The reality is you have two similar looking dogs and you never noticed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- _avee_ · 2023-10-24 16:32 My Immich hasn’t face-tagged any animal photos. Do you need to enable it somehow? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- joelnodxd · 2023-10-30 11:50 apologies for the late reply, but how do you get it to auto add animal names?
