Gonic and Supersonic Updates reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- adamshand · 2023-10-23 20:12 These two don't get much love here, and are my favourite combo for desktop music playing. They are also actively supporting the [opensubsonic](https://opensubsonic.netlify.app/) standard. The latest version of [Gonic](https://github.com/sentriz/gonic/releases) and [Supersonic](https://github.com/dweymouth/supersonic/releases) both support multivalued tags such as album artists and genres. And the latest Supersonic now integrates with the macOS music APIs (so you can control music from the menubar and with the function keys). Yeah! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- helmut72 · 2023-10-23 21:40 how about covers in the mo3 files? is gonic able to handle that now? many years ago i spend months for have cover images into my files. don"t want to have something from external that is wrong. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dweymouth · 2023-10-23 22:50 It looks like it's still an [open issue](https://github.com/sentriz/gonic/issues/11) in Gonic, but someone has taken the initiative to fork and add cover image support to the tag reading library that Gonic is using. So it looks like all that may be left is to implement the fetching Gonic-side (and possibly DB migration if needed - not sure if Gonic internally associates images with albums, folders, or tracks). I'm sure sentriz would be happy to review a pr! (hint-hint) ;) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- adamshand · 2023-10-23 23:05 I haven't had any troubles with album art, they show up correctly in all the subsonic apps I've used. But I tagged everything with Beets years ago ... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- helmut72 · 2023-10-24 01:16 Of course embedded album art, because anything else isn't tagged. It's the same if someone save albumartist to albumartist.txt or date to date.txt in the same folder. ;) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dweymouth · 2023-10-24 01:57 Just to argue the other side - with artwork 99% of the time all tracks in the same album have the same art. So if you have a 1000x1000 cover image in every file on a 3 disk box set that's a lot of repeated data (though my library is FLAC so I'm no one to talk ;) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- helmut72 · 2023-10-25 05:58 Of course repeated data. But this cover.jpg was just our workaround in the 90s/early 2k, when harddrive space was very limited. We have now 2023 :)
