Shinobi sucks (for me), recommend me something else! reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eWalcacer · 2023-10-23 13:37 So I'm running Shinobi on my Proxmox server and I managed to get it setup. However, it's far from user friendly, it's splitting the recordings like a retard and it's slow (4 cores from a 5800H with 2gb ram, only two 4MP cameras). Am I gonna have to buy an NVR or is there another service that works with ONVIF cameras? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-23 13:47 https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/search?q=shinobi&restrict_sr=on ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eWalcacer · 2023-10-23 14:22 Have you ever tried Frigate? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-23 15:07 No? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ovizii · 2023-10-23 15:18 I switched from shinobi to frigate (can't remember the exact reason though) for as far as I remember frigate had a closer integration into home assistant. I was pretty happy with both systems. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JesJHoward · 2023-10-23 17:39 Big fan of Motioneye ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ang3l12 · 2023-10-23 18:13 I used blue iris for close to 5 years. The drawbacks being that it only runs on a windows machine, and that machine needs a some kind of gpu to get any kind of reasonable performance. I switched to Unifi Protect about 6 months ago, and while it's not as powerful or feature packed as blue iris / frigate, the "it just works" feature is worth it for my sanity. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eWalcacer · 2023-10-23 18:24 Man, I wish Omada had something like that. At this point, I'm almost buying a new camera license to use on my shitty Synology, as Surveillance Station works fine for me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ang3l12 · 2023-10-23 18:27 I almost went with my qnap NVR solution too, but it was time to replace the cameras I had as well, since my outdoor cameras didn't have working microphones. The biggest factor for me in the process was ease of setup / Wife Approval Factor. I setup our Blue Iris system just before we had our first kid, and now that we have two kids, I have almost no time to tinker / fix / upgrade my self hosted things, so the unifi protect was the solution that ticked most of the boxes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eWalcacer · 2023-10-23 18:32 Yeah, that's makes a lot of sense to me. I just want something that works, that will record everything and be quickly accessible. I'm almost buying a Dahua NVR, but I really wish there was a server software that makes it easy to setup and monitor. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ang3l12 · 2023-10-23 18:38 The unifi stuff just works, but the included storage with the cloud key (their hardware NVR for small deployments) only comes with a 1tb drive. I have considered upgrading that drive, but for now I only have it set to record when cameras detect motion, and with 6 cameras I've yet to come to a point where I wanted to pull a recording from after it's been purged due to space. But there are times that I wish I had recording always turned on, I just haven't done that yet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- adamshand · 2023-10-23 19:21 We used ZoneMinder at my last job to monitor dozen or so cameras. It's ugly and old school but worked pretty well and could do everything we needed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- violet-crayola · 2023-10-23 19:21 Xeoma - its paid, but works on Linux server and very light. And picks up random no name cheap cameras very well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eWalcacer · 2023-10-23 19:25 Is it subscription based? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lunakoa · 2023-10-23 19:30 I use zoneminder heavily, I like it because it is open source and the database is easy to figure out. I wrote my own web interface to deal with the Google Chrome 6 feed limit. Also ties into mqtt and home assistant for me. With that said I wouldn't recommend it because it is older and not as user friendly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- d4nm3d · 2023-10-23 21:34 I use BlueIris on a windows 11 Vm on an USFF Lenovo system.. i'm running 5 1080p cameras on it with 24x7 recording an no issues. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- violet-crayola · 2023-10-23 22:20 Well its perpetual license if u dont need updates ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xtr3m3ly · 2023-10-24 17:10 i can recommend iSPY ([https://www.ispyconnect.com/download.aspx](http s://www.ispyconnect.com/download.aspx)).
