Any Cheap Object storage service recommendation? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- keepar_69 · 2023-10-23 12:39 Seeking budget-friendly object storage provider for CDN use (not pay- as-you-go). Found Hetzner Storage Box but limited to 10 connections. Any recommendations? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ssddanbrown · 2023-10-23 12:53 How much space do you need? Might be able to just get a VPS with some chonky storage for your needs, since many VPS options have predictable pricing. If you needs loads of storage, might be able to combine a cheap VPS to front storage offerings from the same provider (For example, cheap Hetzner VPS with storage box mounted). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Qxt78 · 2023-10-23 13:00 Minio self hosted. Just get a server with loads of storage. This will work most cases. Unless you intend to host an app that is going to be used world wide / needs location based cdn, load balanced etc. Then a commercial service is a better option ---------------------------------------------------------------------- keepar_69 · 2023-10-23 13:05 5 TB, I am already storing my files on a server and serving files to be downloaded, I want to detach them and put them in a separate place, you mentioned combining a vps with hetzner box mounted, it will remain limited to 10 connections, because the files will be downloaded mainly from the box, correct me if am wrong ---------------------------------------------------------------------- keepar_69 · 2023-10-23 13:06 Sadly selfhost is not an option for me ---------------------------------------------------------------------- magicaldelicious · 2023-10-23 13:08 Wasabi [0] might be a long the lines of what you're looking for. I know you said that you're looking for something that's not PAYG, but Wasabi's pricing is pretty static overall. Takes a bit of know how currently as you setup a relayer client side with docker that shards and encrypts the data and then sends it to the distributed network. So it’s very secure as the only point when your data isn’t sharded and encrypted is on your own system. https://xns.tech/relayer/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-23 13:41 Simply combine Hetzner Storage Box with a basic Hetzner VPS and then you dont have limited connections and you can run whatever you want on it (minio, garage, webdav, whatever) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-23 13:42 Do you know the name of this sub? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-23 13:48 > correct me if am wrong Youre wrong. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PsychotherapistSam · 2023-10-23 14:01 From my experience with having a Storage Box (in general, but also) mounted to a VPS from Hetzner is not that great. My SB had constant connection drops, bad performance and in general just wasn't very fast. Switched to B2, albeit being significantly more expensive, it's far outperforming the SB for me, which is also to be expected, as this isn't really what the SB is designed for. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 12_nick_12 · 2023-10-23 14:16 I second this. And if you don't use CF they now allow 3x downloads. Don't use wasabi since they have that 90 day retention policy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- opensrcdev · 2023-10-23 14:34 Backblaze is freakin' awesome ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hursofid · 2023-10-23 14:56 Contabo S3 storage is 2.49€ per quarter of Terabyte is crazy cheap. Using it for backups. It's not very flexible but with such price I just can't complain. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-23 15:06 You think 10€/TB is *cheap*? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hursofid · 2023-10-23 15:08 Conparing to AWS/Azure/GCP – yes it's stupid cheap ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-23 15:12 Its been working pretty great for me for months now, Hetzner VPS with Sbox attached to it. No issues at all. Obviously B2 has advantages, but imo its silly to compare these two options at a more than 100% price difference, especially since OP is asking for "cheap". ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-23 15:14 Hetzner Sbox starts at 4€/TB vs your "cheap" 10€/months, quite a difference. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hursofid · 2023-10-23 15:16 Ok. Can you be more agressive pls? It's not enough ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ovizii · 2023-10-23 15:21 To be fair, Hetzner Sbox does not offer S3 access. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zwamkat · 2023-10-23 15:22 Nice one. TY. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- olegon85 · 2023-10-23 15:23 https://tebi.io with free plan 25gb s3 storage. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thestackdev · 2023-10-23 15:34 Cloudflare R2 seems like a good choice for new or experimental projects, while AWS S3 is more suitable for serious endeavors. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- atheken · 2023-10-23 15:36 > Contabo I just checked because I hadn't heard of this one, it's priced at about $11/TB-mo, so it's about as competitive as B2. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- entirefreak · 2023-10-23 16:13 Care to suggest cheapest storage? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- spudd01 · 2023-10-23 16:28 Current user of wasabi, whats the 90 day retention policy? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 12_nick_12 · 2023-10-23 16:29 If you delete a file you're charged for 90 days regardless of how long that file was there. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mlazzarotto · 2023-10-23 16:35 IDrive E2. I’ve got 1TB for 1 year for $4 (then will be $40/year) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- spudd01 · 2023-10-23 16:36 Ah didn't know that, thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 12_nick_12 · 2023-10-23 16:37 Of course. Back when wasabi was significantly cheaper than backblaze it made sense, but with them not being any more it's not really worth it. https://knowledgebase.wasabi.com/hc/en-us/articles/360058734492-How- does-Wasabi-s-minimum-storage-duration-policy-work- #:~:text=With%20Wasabi%20minimum%20storage%20retention,pay%2Dgo)%20pri cing%20model. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- spudd01 · 2023-10-23 16:43 What's the CF backblaze setup? Is there ingress / egress cost at cloudflare? I'm mostly storing data rather than accessing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 12_nick_12 · 2023-10-23 16:47 They're part of the "bandwidth alliance" which doesn't count data to/from. Vultr is part of it too. So any data between CF/BB isn't counted so as long as you have CF proxy the data outbound is unlimited (orange cloud enabled). Now tho after BB price increase you get 3x the amount of stored data in outbound which is nice. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JoaGamo · 2023-10-23 17:02 literally r/lostredditors ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kmisterk · 2023-10-23 18:40 Hey, keepar_69!
