Noobie thinking about sorting lots of old family photos

As the title says I am new to the self hosting thing and have a bunch
of old photos.  I would love to be able to sort the pics by the
content or the faces in them.  Do you more learned folk have any
recommendations for facial recognition software or a good DAM?

Immich would be a viable choice. It provides face and object
recognition and also sorts your imported images based on the date
extracted from meta data. You can define a custom storage structure,
so your photos e.g. are stored by ////.

If you already run nextcloud then go with nextcloud memories along
with the recognize app.
