[Troubleshooting] Need help with Synology DS423+ connecting TP-Link Deco S4 Satellite/Main on Verizon Fios ONT reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WhosAfraidOf_138 ยท 2023-10-21 02:39 EDIT: I am going to temporarily connect the NAS to the main mesh first. I was able to discover the network this way. However, the transfer speeds are extremely slow, so I don't think this is the best solution. -- I think I need some tech support, complete newb to setting up networking and NAS stuff I recently bought a Synology DS423+. At home, we have Verizon Fios, in which my TP-Link Deco S4 is connected to the ONT. This is the only ethernet out from the ONT. My TP-Link Deco S4 has a total of two ethernet ports. The main port is taken by the input ethernet from the ONT, and an output ethernet that goes to my desktop PC. Here's a graph: https://imgur.com/a/0SEIZpq I tried to connect the DS423+ to one of the satellite meshes using ethernet, but was not able to discover it in my local network. I am guessing that it needs to be connected to the main satellite which has an ethernet-in. I suspect it may have to do with AP Mode for the system - I will try to change it to see if it works.. What can I do in this case? 1. Can I do something within the TP-Link console that will let my DS423+ that's connected to one of the satellite meshes to be discoverable in my local network? Is it a configuration thing? 2. Can I get a 5-port 1gb/2.5gb switch and connect it to either my main satellite or ONT output port, to get an extra wired ethernet port? 3. Or will I need to upgrade my satellite mesh system entirely so there's more ports for me to work with? Sorry for the simple question, thank you.
