With what OSes should i set up my next server(s)? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ZAFJB · 2023-10-20 13:43 Install a hypervisor. Then you can run as many different OSs as you like at the same time, and even one server per service if you want. You won't run into the weird permutation issues where that one really good app won't run on the OS you chose. Just build another VM with the OS that is good for the app. Makes things massively simpler. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zandadoum · 2023-10-20 16:02 if you have a spare machine for testing, try Proxmox it's a hypervisor. you can then either use standard VMs or even LXC containers you can then either use a container NAS like truenas or use Ceph from within proxmox directly ---------------------------------------------------------------------- wffln · 2023-10-20 16:38 why would i use TrueNAS inside Proxmox? can't Proxmox do the storage management with ZFS already? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zandadoum · 2023-10-20 16:48 >why would i use TrueNAS inside Proxmox? can't Proxmox do the storage management with ZFS already? it can. I also mentioned Ceph. but if you want a more GUI solution with (maybe?) more options, you could run TrueNAS inside Proxmox nested stuff is ofc sometimes not optimal, but I do think a LXC container with truenas might fit your needs if ZFS or Ceph is not what you're looking for. i only really mentioned it because it was mentioned in the original post ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kmisterk · 2023-10-20 18:50 ## Post Removed Hey, wffln!
