sw arch recommendations reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Pentaquark1 · 2023-10-20 00:48 Hi guys, would love some pointers on how to lay out my home server. I previously tested truenas scale on bare metal. It was okay to set up, but I really did not care for the plugin support. Not really interested in learning the ideosyncrasies of the truenas web ui since that knowledge doesn't translate anywhere. They also really seem to dislike if you want to do something outside of the web ui. My use cases are: - NAS with zfs - a handful of docker containers, including some that access data on zfs, i.e. photoprism The options that I currently see: - vanilla ubuntu server, manually set up zfs and run stuff in docker containers - proxmox ve, run truenas in one vm, another vm with a linux server to host docker containers - proxmox ve, vm with ubuntu server with zfs + docker containers - something else entirely? If anyone has experience with any of those setups, would be nice to know how convenient it would be to allow access to datasets to docker containers in either of those cases. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- applemantotherescue · 2023-10-21 04:46 Proxmox is top notch. Never had an issue with it. If you're comfortable with docker CLI then that's your best option.
