Plesk on qnap nas and IP issues reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- themasterofthathing · 2023-10-18 14:57 Hi , I am experimenting with plesk self hosted in my qnap nas , I have a domain name but I have an issue to create a personal dns to point it to my IP as the host technicians says I need a public IP address ? Are they meaning dedicated IP address ? Thanks 👍 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- korsarnsk · 2023-10-18 18:29 It depends on that you want to get finally. 1.If you want just to create a website with the domain name you already have, and access the site only you, I then you create it in Plesk, go to DNS settings look for A type record and get IP address. Then go to hosts file on your laptop (use google get instruction how to edit it on your OS) and simply bind the domain with the IP for your laptop. There is only one pre-requisite - the server with Plesk should be in the same local network as your laptop is, or the IP address should be accessible from public internet. Keep in mind that propagation of DNS zone change can take from several minutes till 24h. If you look attentively to the Plesk diagnosis message in its UI, it will guide you how to update DNS properly to have your domain make resolvable to IP on your server. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- themasterofthathing · 2023-10-20 10:35 Thanks for your detailed response , I have sort it out , I think the dns took so long to process , finally it worked , I am not planning to keep the server running as I think it will be risky to open and forward port through the router and to my nas , it was all a sweet experiment for now , that's the Vm off for now . Thank you .
