Photo library/management software reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DavethegraveHunter · 2023-10-18 12:45 I’m slowly moving things away from Apple iCloud to my own private infrastructure. The next thing on my list is photo management. I currently have several Apple Macs, iPhones, iPads, and a Samsung/Android tablet. I’m looking for a photo management software I can host myself (of course), but it needs to be integrate well on iOS/iPadOS. It would be handy if I could use the iPhone’s “save photo” functionality (which saves photos to the Apple Photos app) in order to save photos to the self-hosted solution. (Or perhaps a solution that automatically gets new photos from the Apple Photos app and transfers them into the self- hosted software). It would also be useful if there is a way to run multiple photo libraries on the same device. For instance, I often take photos of family with my iPhone, but also take photos with the iPhone and the Android tablet of work things; it would be handy if I could put these into different libraries, preferably at the time of taking the photo. Could anyone please recommend something suitable? Thank you in advance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-18 12:48 Have you tried to search this subreddit? Photo library tools get discussed so often, you can easily find existing threads. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DavethegraveHunter · 2023-10-18 12:52 Of course. I searched but couldn’t find anything that included the option of multiple libraries running on the same device at the same time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hindusoul · 2023-10-18 13:00 Synology NAS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ebell451 · 2023-10-18 13:05 Synology Moments ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Raithmir · 2023-10-18 13:07 Immich. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DavethegraveHunter · 2023-10-18 13:07 Synology Moments seems to be deprecated and replaced by Synology Photos… which as far as I can tell from previous testing, doesn’t have an option for saving an image to a specific library… or am I missing something? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Admirable-Ground542 · 2023-10-18 16:05 Would recommend Nextcloud , also Nextcloud memories app may suit and NC can also sync with iOS and android , I use on a daily basis ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ebell451 · 2023-10-18 17:26 You are correct about Moments > Synology Photos. Shows how long I've been using them. You might be missing something or I'm not fully understanding the question. If you perform a manual upload them you can choose your location. The automatic upload you can choose a default location and then move them around from there. We use this as a solution for my family of 4. Each of our cell phones are automatically backed up to our respective folder/library. We then have the ability to share photos. https://app.screencast.com/djMrnKe3sXWmz Then we have another "shared" space and this is where we upload all of our photos from digital cameras, etc. https://app.screencast.com/bSYmg5qETTwB3 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ebell451 · 2023-10-18 17:36 [https://www.reddit.com/r/synology/comments/17a2c7a/we\_love\_you\_syn ology\_photos\_please\_keep\_getting/](https://www.reddit.com/r/synolo gy/comments/17a2c7a/we_love_you_synology_photos_please_keep_getting/) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DavethegraveHunter · 2023-10-19 07:20 Thank you for your reply. "The automatic upload you can choose a default location and then move them around from there." This is what I was trying to avoid. I was hoping for a solution where the "save photo" button on an iPhone is actually two or more buttons (one for each library), so that I don't have to double-handle things. In any case, I already have Synology Photos installed on my NAS and have tried i out, but I feel it's not quite the right fit for me. Thank you, though.
