Help with connecting USB 7.1 surround to TV reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Brada360 · 2023-10-17 22:07 I currently have Logitech x530 paired with this USB 7.1 surround sound card: https://www.amazon.com/LEAGY-External-Sound- Card-8-Channel/dp/B07VSHCGWD I wanted to connect it to my Samsung smart TV with S/PDIF optical cable, but it didn't work. Optical cable is lighting red, so connection works, but it doesn't want to produce any sound... I've tested the soundcard using USB on my laptop, and it worked flawlessly. TV doesn't recognize USB as an audio outoput, as expected. As a sanity check, I've tested it with TCL Google TV, but it also doesn't output to S/PDIF output... I even couldn't find a setting for switching to it in audio settings! To counter that problem, I was thinking if there was any way to avoid using optical with my TV, and just create my own reciever that will connect to TV via bluetooth to stream that surround sound. I've found project called "balenasound", but I'm not sure if it can stream surround sound dolby audio... What are my best solutions to fix this issue? Should I continue with Raspberry Pi DIY reciever or I can do something even better? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Legitimate_Farm_3095 · 2023-10-17 22:20 this has nothing to do with selfhosting ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Erikthered00 · 2023-10-17 22:20 First, wrong sub. That said, the bluetooth option and Belana sound even if you get working will have delay and won't sync with the picture. I'd keep trying to get the sound output working on the TV. What you have *should* work up to 5.1. Check the output formats on the TV. Optical can output 5.1 in Dolby Digital or DTS audio, or 2.0 in Linear PCM (LPCM). You won't get 7.1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Brada360 · 2023-10-17 22:23 I've seen some "baleasound" threads in this sub, so that's why I've asked it here... Can you reccomend some good sub for my problem? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Brada360 · 2023-10-17 22:28 Hi, I didn't know in which sub to post my question, but I've seen some "baleasound" threads here, so i gave it a try... Can you reccomend some sub? Also, I have also found out about 7.1 not being compatible with optical... But the problem is it doesn't work at all. But that would steer away from this thread question domain... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ThePixlPirate · 2023-10-17 22:31 There’s literally not a single post about baleasound here….whatever that is ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-17 22:32 Just because you might have seen other posts in a sub doesnt mean its the correct one. Imo you should simply check the sub description and their rules before posting in a new sub, simple as that. And if you ahd done that you would have seen that this sub is about selfhosting software services, for example you want to get rid of Google as much as possible and you want to run a Google Photos alternative on your own server at home. Subs that could fit your problem? I have no idea, search around? Thats what people do. Maybe simple /r/TechSupport? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Brada360 · 2023-10-17 22:33 https://reddit.com/r/selfhosted/s/zIyR2IdiBQ Check out here... it is basicly self-hosting home audio system, and in at least one of the comments is suggested baleasound solution ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Erikthered00 · 2023-10-17 22:38 I think you need to consider my last point more. That device is not a standalone converter. You'll need to run it through a computer. This is more the type you need. Even then, you'll need to convert the 3.5mm to RCA connections, although many Logitech speakers came with those adapters.
