Upgrading from RPi4B to Optiplex: which setup/OS for Docker & NAS? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Madame_Rabougrie · 2023-10-17 17:32 Hello, I've had a Raspberry Pi 4B 2GB running Docker containers for a year. Said containers include plex, the arr apps, wallabag & navidrome. I'm storing data on a 5TB WD Elements external HDD & running Raspberry OS on an SD card. Due to frequent system crashes & random CPU throttles when running anything more than just plex, I'm moving on to a Dell Optiplex 3060 micro PC. I'll be running the OS on an 256GB SSD & am planning to add a lot more containers. I'd like to automatically create backups of my data on a regular basis. If I understand correctly, a NAS would be appropriate for my use. What I am now wondering is, which OS/setup is best, both for managing all Docker containers & creating the backups. Do I have to run Linux & something like TrueNas in separate VMs? How many HDDs to I need for the backup? I'll have one 2.5" HDD slot available inside the PC in addition to 2 additional WD Elements external HDDs. I really appreciate any advice - I've read a lot on Unraid but am still confused about how it's supposed to work & how to pair it with Docker. Thank you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-17 18:03 I would recommend to simply run Proxmox and run whatever you like inside VMs and LXCs, and use Proxmox Backup Server. If you want to learn about unRAID why not ask experts in /r/unRAID ---------------------------------------------------------------------- EndlessHiway · 2023-10-17 19:43 Because you are the one true expert! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-17 19:50 Nope, but compared to you everyone is.
