Self-Host SMTP or Use ZeptoMail for Transactional Emails? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snorlax_lax · 2023-10-17 14:40 I need to send transactional emails for my project. Should I self-host an SMTP server or use ZeptoMail? Looking for advice on pros and cons. Your experiences and suggestions are welcome! Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kmisterk · 2023-10-17 16:04 Thanks for your submission on selfhosted, Snorlax_lax. here at /r/selfhosted, we want to make sure everyone gets their chance to try out self-hosting their apps. It's a lot of information, and we are ready to help! However, it doesn't look like you tried very hard to look up options or solutions on your own. For future reference, please try and link to or list what you've already tried, and give some specifics about the issue or project you're coming across so we can help you help yourself as efficiently as possible. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iavael · 2023-10-17 17:16 Selfhosting smtp server is not a hard task (despite what many people say), but it may be tricky if you are unfamiliar with how email works, don’t want to dive in details and just want to get things done. If you are curious about such task, then sure, you can setup your own smtp server (it’s easier to operate mail sending service rather than receiving since you don’t have to deal with filtering incoming spam), just make sure that your server is not an open relay and has good mandatory authentication. And of course monitor your email service (like any other, that’s what you do, right?). If you want to focus on your project and not to burden yourself with yet another service to maintain, then I’d recommend you to use TM service. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Door_Vegetable · 2023-10-17 23:29 I know it’s not self hosted but If you have an iCloud plus account you can get free custom domain hosting. It’s not bad for $1:50 a month
