I bought a domain name. Now what? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Shortstack_Sean98 · 2023-10-16 19:12 Hello everybody, I bought a domain name on Hover.com and wanted to know how I can connect my homelab to it. So far I've got the domain connected to Cloudflare but I have absolutely no idea how to go about getting everything set up on the networking side of things. Does anybody have some useful tips/guides/videos that could help? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MRP_yt · 2023-10-16 19:29 i have LXC container inside proxmox with cloudflare tunnel installed. Inside cloudflare dashboard, under ZERO TRUST i setup a bunch of rules who has access to what and from where. All ticking nicely ---------------------------------------------------------------------- EndlessHiway · 2023-10-16 20:03 Make a porn site. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DrDoom229 · 2023-10-16 20:07 I have Guacamole and NextCloud setup with a domain and cloudflare tunnel. Did it thia weekend ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dryEther · 2023-10-16 20:12 Did you add any additional security when exposing nextcloud via cloudflare? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DrDoom229 · 2023-10-16 20:13 I set it as https in cloudflare ---------------------------------------------------------------------- youmeiknow · 2023-10-16 20:14 Could you explain more about how you are using? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MRP_yt · 2023-10-16 20:15 I have sent you Reddit DM with a link. Posting link in comments will be taken as self-promoting. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Tha_Reaper · 2023-10-16 20:19 YouTube search networkchuck his Cloudflare tunnel tutorial. It's super simple to follow and really informative ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dryEther · 2023-10-16 20:23 So you used the 443 or 8443 for nextcloud and used https.on cloudflare. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DrDoom229 · 2023-10-16 20:24 Correction 8443 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- youmeiknow · 2023-10-16 20:25 Thank you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- igmyeongui · 2023-10-16 20:29 First thing I would transfer my domain name to cloudflare 😆 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dryEther · 2023-10-16 20:29 Got it. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sasukefan01234 · 2023-10-16 20:49 Sell it for profit ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DrDoom229 · 2023-10-16 20:49 I used the same one. Def super simple ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Xstar97TheNoob · 2023-10-16 21:05 You can setup a reverse proxy and access your services through it. Most common reverse proxy to use would be nginx proxy manager if you want a gui or traefik. There are other reverse proxies just wanna keep your short and easy. You can make it so where its resolved locally where you can access the domain via your lan without directly exposing it to the internet. All you need to do is run a local dns server for example pihole or adguardhome You can create records in these services and resolve your domains to your lan ip of your reverse proxy. Set this dns server as your primary dns on your router/ client device (not the server, don't let it resolve itself) Run the following commands on your client device to validate that's its resolved locally. Change the values to your own sub domain and ip for your dns server. If they return the lan ip of your reverse proxy; then the services are resolved locally. ```nslookup app.example.com 10.0.0.123``` ```nslookup app.example.com``` ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-16 21:11 [Now what?](https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/search?q=now+what&rest rict_sr=on&include_over_18=on&sort=relevance&t=all) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Calliico · 2023-10-16 21:27 Would you mind sending me the same one friend? It is appreciated ---------------------------------------------------------------------- phein4242 · 2023-10-16 22:31 Start by reading what DNS can do. Good luck! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2023-10-16 22:52 [removed] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pc817 · 2023-10-16 23:05 With namecheap I can setup dynamic DNS on my router and it keeps my domains pointing directly to my home ip, at that point you can point directly to a server on your network with port forwarding or use a reverse proxy or whatever internally. I actually only point one domain at my house then CNAME everything to that domain, works great for me ---------------------------------------------------------------------- seeyahlater · 2023-10-16 23:34 Put it behind cloudflare and look in reverse proxies. By far the easiest to get started with is nginx reverse proxy. It has a nice UI. Next move up to traefik or other reverse proxy solutions. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Shortstack_Sean98 · 2023-10-17 00:10 I've got it set up with Cloudflared Tunnel now, but I noticed that I wouldn't be able to use Jellyfin without breaking TOS. Would using Traefik or Nginx Proxy Manager work to bypass that? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- flossraptor · 2023-10-17 00:45 Hover.com sounds like it is worth at least six figures. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kmisterk · 2023-10-17 02:09 Thanks for your submission on selfhosted, Shortstack_Sean98. here at /r/selfhosted, we want to make sure everyone gets their chance to try out self-hosting their apps. It's a lot of information, and we are ready to help! However, it doesn't look like you tried very hard to look up options or solutions on your own. For future reference, please try and link to or list what you've already tried, and give some specifics about the issue or project you're coming across so we can help you help yourself as efficiently as possible. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nitroV32 · 2023-10-17 03:40 Cloudflare is a good start, start a Google cloud trial as well and set up oauth2 for logging into your public cloudflare tunnels so you're not solely relying on the strength of your services' passwords. It's been working very well for my lab as of late. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CrispyBegs · 2023-10-17 07:25 https://www.crosstalksolutions.com/cloudflare-tunnel-easy-setup/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thetayoo · 2023-10-17 10:14 Hi, can you possibly send me the link as well?
