Why isnt ocis Moore popular? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- trexxeon · 2023-10-16 11:07 How come no one in here seems to recommend ownCloud infinite Scale? I have been testing it out and although it feels like a work in progress it’s really fast and works really well when you get it up and running.. I guess it’s more fair to compare it to something like seafile than nextcloud ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WiseCookie69 · 2023-10-16 11:22 I guess most people simply don't know about it. They might know about ownCloud and Nextcloud, but might've never heard of oCIS, as it's barely talked about. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- trexxeon · 2023-10-16 11:30 Have you tried it? What’s your opinion of it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Acrobatic_Assist_662 · 2023-10-16 11:32 I know it’s a typo but woo, for a second I was like “Who is Ocis Moore and what did they do for the selfhosted community?” ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WiseCookie69 · 2023-10-16 11:33 Not yet, it's on my agenda for the holidays. But I have high hopes for it, as even CERN uses oCIS in production. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- trexxeon · 2023-10-16 11:50 😄 damn autocorrect ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Alles_ · 2023-10-16 12:24 because docs are not complete and it uses weird filesystem attributes which makes it incompatible with a lot of backup solutions, kopia, restic etc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- justahobby20 · 2023-10-16 12:39 Seafile gets recommended for speed. Nextcloud for addons. OCIS seems to have potential, but it still has a long way to go. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rrrmmmrrrmmm · 2023-10-16 12:46 I might be mistaken but I think that Nextcloud has _a lot_ of cool additional apps that you can add and OCIS has only file hosting. So instead of installing 10 different apps it's often easier just to go with a single Nextcloud instance and nextcloud app extensions. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hoptimal · 2023-10-16 13:12 I set it up a couple months ago but switched back to seafile after a while. Setup was cumbersome, because the documentation was really lacking. And it didn't work with the rclone mount that I was using at the time, so I had to setup minio to serve the storage backend via s3. Then I had to set up Keycloak because I wanted 2FA. It worked fine but the added complexity wasn't worth it for me (I didn't like it any better than seafile apart from the fact that OCIS is FOSS), so I switched back. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- trexxeon · 2023-10-16 14:13 The documentation is what makes it really hard to set things up with ocis.. totally agree Rclone support is also something I would like to see.. would make backups easier ---------------------------------------------------------------------- moarmagic · 2023-10-16 15:57 I'll be another one who has never heard of it. However, I'm in general migrating away self hosted collaboration platforms- at the end of the day, not worth the hassle, or resources- google docs is something everyone has, no managing users or certs or server updates. Synchthing is a better dropbox/drive replacement and a lot smaller. There might be better use cases for this stuff, but not in my homelab or daily life. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Niggl1999 · 2023-10-16 16:14 I started using it a about a month ago and am really happy with it. Setup was a b tho (thanks to the not 100% complete documentation). After setting everything up, ocis is on it's way to become my new favourite fileshare/dropbox-alike. I'm using it for a small business and don't need any additional apps/feature (like a gallery or calendar) besides robust file storage/sharing and sso. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xitrum4692 · 2023-10-16 16:36 I'm unable to use their own app to upload file (not small file, over 500mb each) but the webpage is good. I still keep it and wait ---------------------------------------------------------------------- trexxeon · 2023-10-16 16:44 I am with you, ocis does one thing and it does it pretty well ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BadGroundbreaking243 · 2023-10-16 19:53 It's cumbersome to setup the way I like. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- haroldtheb · 2023-10-16 23:09 Tried it, but wanted to test out a backup and restore in case of a disaster. I could never get it to work and the documentation is terrible so it stayed with syncthing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- trexxeon · 2023-10-17 05:54 It's really strange that they haven't prioritized a decent solution for backup and restore. Read that snapshots using zfs or btrfs is something that's encouraged.. it's a pretty lazy approach on their part. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aRnonymousan · 2023-10-21 21:12 Tried installing it. But can't get it working with SWAG and Authelia, i tried everything. If anyone has any ideas, i would love to try it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- trexxeon · 2023-10-21 21:20 I've got it working with authelia and caddy, it's tricky but when it's up and working it's great ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aRnonymousan · 2023-10-22 06:22 Did you set up the authelia openid connector? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- trexxeon · 2023-10-22 07:14 Yes
