Remote web browser / Remote Desktop reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- apsley_oude · 2023-10-15 16:53 I don’t think this title is quite accurate, but hopefully explaining my use case will help clarify. I run a small home server and I have a Pfsense router which runs a WireGuard vpn. The other day, my friend sent me a file download link via his Synology. Clicking the link takes me to a Synology portal where I have to enter a password. Then I can view the files and download them if I choose. I was away from home at the time and in an ideal world, I wanted to get the download started on my home server so it’d be finished by the time I got back (it was a pretty large file). So essentially, I would have liked to connect to my VPN remotely and load up some kind of remote web browser which would have allowed me to navigate to the download link and start the download directly from my home server. How would I go about achieving something like this? Is this where a Remote Desktop comes in or is there a more specialized tool for my use case? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- EndlessHiway · 2023-10-15 17:20 Couldn't you just install Firefox in docker container on your network and use that? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- apsley_oude · 2023-10-15 17:57 You’re right, hadn’t even thought of that! Just tried and it’s working great, thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- EndlessHiway · 2023-10-15 22:24 Glad I finally had some useful advice for someone!
