Which server is the best for my purposes? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- quequay1 · 2023-10-15 11:10 I am currently looking for a new server. I want to install Proxmox on the system and run both a Windows and a Linux installation (for private purposes), possibly 1-2 more VMs via Proxmox at a later date. The Windows system is primarily used as a remote workstation and applications like Firefox, SQL Server, Visual Studio or PowerBI are run there. The Linux system runs various services, mostly via Docker containers, such as PostgreSQL, mailcow, nextCloud, nginx or K3S and the system is also used for compiling software developments (mainly C, C++, Python and some web development). Disk capacity is only secondarily important, as I usually offload large files to a Storage Box. The server will be used exclusively for private purposes and should run as performant and smooth as possible, so that working is fun. I am currently unsure which server would be the best choice from a price/performance point of view. In the field of vision I have the following servers: \- i5-12500, 2x 512 GB SSD, 64 GB RAM, 40€/month \- i9-9900K, 2x 1 TB SSD, 64 GB RAM, 42€/month \- Ryzen 3700X, 2x 1 TB SSD, 64 GB ECC RAM, 40€/month \- Ryzen 3900, 2x 1 TB SSD, 64 GB ECC RAM, 53€/month \- i5-13500, 2x 512 GB SSD, 64 GB RAM, 52€/month Which choice (or perhaps another alternative) would you choose? Where is the best price-performance ratio considering my purposes? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-15 11:28 copy/paste...
