Pergect approach to definitively arrange a collection of bookmarks spanning two decades and exceeding 1000 entries. reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- R3dAt0mz3 · 2023-10-14 22:46 Greetings, I am currently in the process of arranging a collection of bookmarks that have remained untouched for over a decade, many of which are now defunct or have undergone domain changes. I have initiated this process using Raindrop.io. Could you kindly provide screenshots displaying how you have structured your bookmark organization across various web browsers? With a substantial inventory of over 1000 bookmarks requiring proper categorization, I have allocated a block of time to ensure that this endeavor results in an aesthetically pleasing and easily accessible resource. I am also seeking your valuable input on the optimal quantity of bookmarks per folder and the recommended number of folders within each category. I have outlined preliminary categories such as Hardware, Software, Apps, Health, Family, Kids, Leisure, Work, Research, Travel, and Read and Archive or Delete. Furthermore, I anticipate the likelihood of creating duplicate folders while organizing bookmarks within their respective categories. I would greatly appreciate your insights and advice on this matter. While your guidance is highly anticipated, I understand that sharing screenshots may not be feasible; however, your verbal description of your bookmark organization approach would be immensely helpful. Warm regards, ---------------------------------------------------------------------- carl2187 · 2023-10-15 06:32 What are your bookmarks of? Just curious I'm old af and have like 20 bookmarks after all these years. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lilolalu · 2023-10-15 07:56 I think unless you are bookmarking the dark web or other non-indexed resources, the concept of "bookmarks" has outlived itself. For me it's usually faster to find a website on a search engine then to find it in my bookmarks. But, you can just run Elasticsearch over your bookmarks and create a full text search for them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- R3dAt0mz3 · 2023-10-15 09:59 It consists of everything.. Health/diet links, Various fixes/tweaks for apps/software/hardware (which are bookmarked after extensive research) Best from entire Interne I should say, which are useful for me today/tomorrow. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- R3dAt0mz3 · 2023-10-15 10:01 I agree with this, and that was first thought that hit my mind.. 10 years back we did multiple browsers or class-platform requirements. There are non-indexed sources, but no dark web.. (generally dont use it much) But bookmarks come handy on cross-platforms and multiple browsers, if it is free solution then it just adds to productivity after configuring it for first time and start using it (adapting) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- carl2187 · 2023-10-15 14:05 Make sure to archive the sites you really like. They won't be there forever. Archive.org waybackmachine ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NimrodJM · 2023-10-15 15:21 I use LinkDing and tag things with categories that help refine my efforts to find the bookmark I want. It’s not a full text index, but I find it very effective. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- R3dAt0mz3 · 2023-10-15 20:48 Thanks but i am also looking for android support ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aajn88 · 2023-10-25 20:11 I love [ekorn.xyz](https://ekorn.xyz) \- they even have an AI shortcut to search through your bookmarks.
