Looking for Remote SSH Web Dashboard without installing agent reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This-Gene1183 · 2023-10-14 19:49 Hi guys! I'm looking for something like Cockpit, but instead of installing the software on the remote server, but I'd like to use SSH to grab the data (CPU,mem, disk, network, etc) and display it in a webpage/dashboard, does something like this exist? For Android, RaspController does this all via ssh. But I haven't seen/found a self hosted web version. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.Ettore.raspcontroller ---------------------------------------------------------------------- joecool42069 · 2023-10-14 20:01 Apache Guacamole ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This-Gene1183 · 2023-10-14 20:18 I was hoping to find a simple/light opensource project. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hdddanbrown · 2023-10-14 20:23 When youre hoping to find something, try the search? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- joecool42069 · 2023-10-14 20:23 https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/comments/hvlmfj/how\_to\_run\_ssh\_cl ient\_in\_a\_web\_browser\_hosted\_in/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- compuwar · 2023-10-14 23:47 Write an ansible playbook to grab/return the data and a short script to format it as HTML? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NikStalwart · 2023-10-15 00:06 > but I'd like to use SSH to grab the data (CPU,mem, disk, network, etc) and display it in a webpage/dashboard, does something like this exist? Sure it's doable, but I'm not sure something like this exists, because this is not the most performant way to go about this. If you want simple system state information, maybe try netdata. It is a very lightweight agent, zero config, simple install, fairly comprehensive. You are not looking for a web SSH, you are looking for a lightweight monitoring solution. The reason why I say this is that web ssh naturally requires installing something capable of talking to it on the remote server. Unless you mean, 'have backend pull data via ssh and then display in web app'. Again, that's possible but *why*? There are much, much better tools for doing this. For instance, if you are trying to avoid remote config, then this will not work. It is a bad idea to have arbitrary SSH sessions just hanging  — what if your monitoring box gets compromised? So you'd need to restrict your ssh sessions so that only monitoring data can come through. But at that point, why not just run netdata or prometheus collectors? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This-Gene1183 · 2023-10-15 05:23 That's kind of what I'm looking for. A back end system that can SSH into a device and display stuff on a web app. The SSH session would not have to stay open, just able to log in. Pull back some data and move on. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kloeckwerx · 2023-10-15 07:02 I know JuiceSSH on Android can do this, so I imagine there's a self hosted option. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- _nix-addict · 2023-10-15 10:59 Why not use any of the protocols actually meant for this? SNMP? Something like telegraf? Ssh is not meant for this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This-Gene1183 · 2023-10-15 17:42 I wanted a clean system with no extra overhead. I already Grafana on some of my servers. But I was wondering if there was a simple ssh web admin dashboard that existed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HrBingR · 2023-10-15 20:52 I'm pretty sure Cockpit can do this without an agent / software on the remote side. https://fedoramagazine.org/using-cockpit-to-graphically-manage- systems-without-installing-cockpit-on-them/
