Any good game server control panels recommendations? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lonlygamerx · 2023-10-14 14:36 Currently using Cubecoders AMP on my linux (ubuntu 22.04) to control, create and manage most of my game severs. Have had a lot of issues with it both support wise and just generally and was wondering if anyone knew any good alternatives to it? Looking for something that can be managed though website as both myself and some friends create servers and i dont want to give my friends ssh to my server, and as well possible even run though docker containers Thank you in advance ---------------------------------------------------------------------- XxNerdAtHeartxX · 2023-10-14 14:37 I think Pterodactyl is the only alternative, but personally I love and haven't had any issues with AMP. Its been great to use Pterodactyl is a lot more complex to get set up and going ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nyrosis · 2023-10-14 14:55 I've used this lxc template in the past from proxmox but it can be deployed in other ways. And the instructions for installation are very easy to follow nowadays. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Both_Eagle8434 · 2023-10-14 18:01 I switched a month ago from AMP to Pufferpanel because I also had a lot of issues with AMP. Pufferpanel is awesome for simple game servers, and user permissions are also really easy to create. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MCiLuZiioNz · 2023-10-14 20:55 Pterodactyl is great. It was a bit of a hassle for me to setup in Docker compared to AMP (I was just dumb it's not that hard). But overall, it's a way better experience. For me, the most important thing was how easy it was to add support for new servers. AMP makes you jump through a ton of hoops with their "proprietary" installation methods/scripts. Pterodactyl installation scripts are just bash scripts. I've contributed a few installation scripts to the community egg repo (eggs are what they call versions of games, like Vanilla Minecraft, CurseForge Modded Minecraft, Bedrock, etc.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Disconsented · 2023-10-14 22:48 [PufferPanel](https://pufferpanel.com/), sensible technology choices (Vue.js + Golang, self-serving binary & a sqlite database), installed as an OS package and gives you the option of using either docker or native instances. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UtensilOwl · 2023-10-15 00:44 I started out using AMP on a standard network license because of the scaling requirements I had - But there was some glaring issues that "simply" needed fixing, but through the limited support of one developer nothing happened and it eventually ended up completely ignored. I went and tested Puffer and then lastly I ended up with Pterodactyl. All projects has it's ups and downs, but at least theres help to receive from both Puffer and Ptero support. It's been a while in regards to Puffer but I hear it is in a good place. Ptero is at a mature state right now. In terms of setup difficulty, Puffer is extremely easy and pretty much runs out of the box. Pterodactyl has some pretty bulletproof guides to follow on their doc site, as well as community maintained install guides for the different distros. There is also help to get on their Discord, just like Puffer's. Both very good systems. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tem66 · 2023-10-15 16:12 did you even read the post? you just suggested AMP as an alternative to AMP ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IllegalD · 2023-10-16 00:54 Nope hahaha. It really is the best of the lot though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PhonicUK · 2023-10-20 10:51 Could you tell us a little more about the issues you're having? Have you opened any support tickets so they can be looked into? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PhonicUK · 2023-10-20 10:52 What kind of issues did you have? Did you end up opening any support posts? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PhonicUK · 2023-10-20 10:53 Adding support for new applications to AMP is really straightforward - a plain key=value configuration file to tell it which executable to start and other basic details, and JSON files to tell it how to update the application and what kind of configuration it takes. Nothing proprietary about it at all :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PhonicUK · 2023-10-20 10:59 What kind of issues did you have? Did you create any support tickets? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Both_Eagle8434 · 2023-10-20 11:06 They told me there is no Support for the Docker Version of AMP and I had Issues with the Server Sleep Feature. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PhonicUK · 2023-10-20 11:09 There is no 'Docker' version of AMP. There's a 3rd party unofficial container made by someone unrelated to the project which I really wish people would stop trying to use because it compromises AMPs functionality - requiring that you shut everything down any time you want to add a new game and new ports to your setup. If you want to use Docker, you install AMP on the host and let it create containers itself. Which game were you using Sleep with? In the case of Minecraft it doesn't work well with modded servers because of protocol differences. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lonlygamerx · 2023-10-21 13:37 Well first issue i had to give an example was when trying to setup it with cloudflare i had a lot of issues and when i asked for help then said the way they had made it for ubuntu it would create a lot of issues with cloudflare. I asked for things like programs or 3rd party apps to fix the issue or even what part of their project was doing that so i could make it work with cloudflare but got told it was unrelated to them and they closed my issue. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PhonicUK · 2023-10-21 13:48 For Cloudflare the only sensible thing to do is use the DNS Mode only (grey cloud) - game servers themselves can't make use of cloudflare without using their expensive tunnels so there's very little to gain by using it. Cloudflare isn't designed for real-time applications. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lonlygamerx · 2023-10-21 20:39 well it wasnt so much for the games servers but for the web ui. I did find a solution later on which is were i could use tunnels but still they support was slow and even their response fells more like they dont care about issues ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PhonicUK · 2023-10-21 20:53 Are you sure it was actually Cubecoders staff you spoke to? On Discord they have green names and are around during UK working hours, on the forums their icon is the Cubecoders logo. Anyone else is just another user. It's why it's important to create tickets or use the support button in AMP which gets you a staff response, since they might not be around in other channels all the time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lonlygamerx · 2023-10-22 07:33 Well was using cloudflare to connect my domain to the amp web interface and yeah im sure it was the staff as they had the roles and everything. I would understand if it wasnt the staff but sadly it was. Ive also had other issues like amp servers not starting up and asking for help on it but was told it was unrelated to them even when i was just setting it on localhost. Just generally ive had a bad experience with their support overall ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PhonicUK · 2023-10-22 07:50 Having a role on Discord doesn't make them a Cubecoders employee (largely because *everyone* has a role). If they're any color other than green then you just spoke to another community member. Not to an actual employee. Similarly if you didn't open a ticket then you didn't speak to an employee. I've checked the history and no employee has responded to any queries about cloudflare recently except myself on yesterday afternoon. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with a community member, but there's nearly 10,000 people in that Discord and it sounds like you've mistaken perhaps a moderator or some other role for an employee and not gotten the response you hoped for. Actual employees are only usually present during UK working hours so it's important to use tickets if you want to be assured of a response outside of those times. Perhaps we need to do a bit better at making this clear though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lonlygamerx · 2023-10-22 11:25 well its an old post fyi so you probably can find it and even had in the past had issue were the owner on the discord group reply similar to that its unrelated even when it was related to it. I havent open any recent tickets as ive been looking for alternatives to it hence the post
