Docker Jellyfin Setup with Portainer with media in a network location reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Loquat_Original · 2023-10-13 22:42 I had problems setting up Jellyfin and Jellyfin accessing my network media files. For some reason the network locations did not want to mount on Linux but I found a easy and quick work around with Portainer and thought I share it. Might come in handy for some. 1. Install a Linux of your choice but I went with Ubuntu Server 22.04 2. Install Docker `sudo apt-get update` `sudo apt-get upgrade` `sudo apt-get install curl apt-transport-https ca-certificates software-properties-common` `curl -fsSL https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu/gpg | sudo apt- key add -` `sudo add-apt-repository "deb [arch=amd64] https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu $(lsb_release -cs) stable"` `sudo apt update` `sudo apt install docker-ce` 3. Install CIFS (This is to use the CIFS service to connect to a network location) `sudo apt update` `sudo apt install cifs-utils` 4. Install Portainer `docker volume create portainer_data` `docker run -d -p 8000:8000 -p 9443:9443 --name portainer --restart=always -v /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock -v portainer_data:/data portainer/portainer-ce:latest` 5. Log into Portainer [`https://localhost:9443`](https://localhost:9443) In my case it was [https://192.168.0.4:9443](https://192.168.0.4:9443) 6. Create a Network Volume for Jellyfin [Open your Environment](https://preview.redd.it/91vnj8h6q0ub1.png?widt h=1547&format=png&auto=webp&s=d33170e97e77cbf25f6e1cd0ac0751ba7b6e0dad ) I have a network share located at 192.168.0.2/media [Create Jellyfin\_Media volume that connects to a network location where your media is stored. E.g. I am running TrueNAS with SMB share.] (https://preview.redd.it/b0gh4wzfq0ub1.png?width=1115&format=png&auto= webp&s=0950e56fe7440f78eef6b6fd0c1ea74099d415dd) 7. Create Jellyfin Docker Container [Add Container](https://preview.redd.it/ejsnc5r4t0ub1.png?width=1889&f ormat=png&auto=webp&s=3a04578511b57a740a41a5d4d3923adbf5a2f064) [First part: Container config](https://preview.redd.it/0170qy86u0ub1.p ng?width=1316&format=png&auto=webp&s=a76d38dd5c24d39b3498ef3b561ac1280 fbe100b) [Second part: Volumes setup](https://preview.redd.it/gt6hzmphr1ub1.png ?width=987&format=png&auto=webp&s=6b79e907202c50ce320e0029014c6232ad77 f486) [Third Part: Env setup](https://preview.redd.it/2i7dw40sr1ub1.png?widt h=1539&format=png&auto=webp&s=cbca838e0a476594552b9dc706fb4b4124c1837f ) At this stage you can deploy container. 8. Connect to Jellyfin Use the IP address of the server with port 8096. E.g. In my case it was [192.168.0.3:8096](https://192.168.0.3:8096) Once your connected to Jellyfin you should see your network Media as a Volume to select in the Jellyfin setup. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Cylian91460 · 2023-10-14 11:57 Apt-get is not deprecated? Mike apt is better no ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AuthorYess · 2023-10-14 14:14 I'd recommend trying to do the same thing with compose instead. I won't go into the details of the setup as there are a lot of guides and stackoverflow threads about it and it's pretty simple to do. It's nice not to be reliant on portainer for this when docker basically has this built in anyway, especially if you just want to just "compose up -d and chill" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2023-11-11 16:26 [removed] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DrTankHead · 2023-12-30 07:23 Howdy. Trying things out myself with getting a container set up for jellyfin. I've seen 3 guides now calling for linuxcontainer/jellyfin:latest rather than jellyfin/jellyfin:latest I'm a novice, but to me, that's a third party's build of jellyfin for LXC? Any reason we do this rather than the official jellyfin image? Are they 1:1? Do I need to do any additional setup other than have a Linux server running portainer? Just looking for more info on what's going on here, greatly appreciate your time.
