Looking for a selfhosted solution to allow my brother and I to provide
offsite replicated storage for each other. I have two Synology boxes
and he has an openmediavault box. I know I could just setup a VPN
between our two houses and use rsync, but was looking to see if there
was a better option.

I don’t know those platforms, but ZFS send/receive?

I'd say rclone or just rsync.
