Does this simple image upload/sharing app exist? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Croatwink · 2023-10-13 13:48 I've looked at a lot of the apps [listed here](https://github.com/awesome-selfhosted/awesome-selfhosted#file- transfer---single-click--drag-n-drop-upload) and I can't find one that matches what I hope to find. 1. Simple upload of one or more images, drag and drop, or similar. 2. S3 backend support. 3. No database requirement 4. Anonymous links to share image 5. Show shared images, do not require download of image 6. Expire image by default 7. Containerized Does this exist? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 12_nick_12 · 2023-10-13 15:05 https://github.com/root-gg/plik is the closest I've found. Does require a DB tho. It does allow direct file access so you don't have to download. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Croatwink · 2023-10-13 15:19 Thanks. Sqlite is fine too but this seems like it requires you to login. I should have been more specific, I'm imagining like a pastebin for pictures. That's why I want the files to expire by default. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 12_nick_12 · 2023-10-13 15:20 It does not require a login. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lilolalu · 2023-10-13 19:17 Run an ipfs node? Ipfs.pics is unmaintained but ipfs is alive https://github.com/ipfspics/ipfspics-server ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Croatwink · 2023-10-13 19:31 In that case I might as well go with my plan B, a webdav server with a local folder synced from my computer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lilolalu · 2023-10-13 19:33 That is very much not anonymous. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lilolalu · 2023-10-13 19:37 If anonymity is not a priority, nextcloud might also work for that. You can set a file retention policy which deletes all files after X days, NC supports s3 backends. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Croatwink · 2023-10-13 19:38 No but it would fulfill my needs. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Croatwink · 2023-10-13 19:41 I just googled "pastebin for images" and [pictshare](https://github.com/HaschekSolutions/pictshare) popped up, it's in the list but I think I overlooked it because the design was dated, and their demo site showed an error. It ticks a lot of boxes but it lacks expiration of uploaded files. Firefox Send I think is perfect, if only it could display images instead of requiring download. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lilolalu · 2023-10-13 19:49 Or this https://github.com/psi-4ward/psitransfer ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Croatwink · 2023-10-13 20:14 I think I found it, privatebin. I already had it installed because I wanted a pastebin but I knew it had file uploads too. It ticks most of the boxes, only thing it doesn't do is display multiple images in one paste. It's good enough to quickly upload an image, send it to a friend, and have it expire after 24 hours. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- parer55 · 2023-10-13 20:17 Filebrowser? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Croatwink · 2023-10-13 20:49 Naw the closest thing to my wishlist is privatebin so far. It's good enough. I wish it would show multiple files but you can't have it all. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Wide-Ad5700 · 2023-10-13 22:42 Pairdrop? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ECANErkDog · 2023-10-13 23:53 ShareX to an sftp destination. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chevereto · 2023-10-14 00:12 Which is the reason you are avoiding a database? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kelthuzad12 · 2023-10-14 03:00 Maybe Zipline https://github.com/diced/zipline ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BBaoVanC · 2023-10-14 03:24 I made something similar for my own use: [https://github.com/BBaoVanC/ bobashare](https://github.com/BBaoVanC/bobashare). It doesn't have built in S3 backend, but I think there's probably ways to mount S3 at a directory. Or I could possibly try implementing it although it feels unnecessary. I haven't had the most time to work on it so drag and drop isn't working and you can't do multiple files at once, but other than that it has everything else you listed. There's a demo at [https://share.boba.best](https://share.boba.best). Let me know if you try it and need any help configuring, I need to write documentation. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ejz9 · 2023-10-14 04:50 microbin? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ejz9 · 2023-10-14 06:43 Just found this scrolling as well: https://reddit.com/r/selfhosted/s/I7xoc5ic27 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- wbsu2003 · 2023-10-14 15:04 https://github.com/tagspaces/tagspaces ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Croatwink · 2023-10-14 15:19 Oh yeah, I noticed that but missed what it was about. Looks very promising but of course being a one man show speaks against it so far. I hope it gets traction. So far I'm good with using Privatebin. The only feature I'd want in Privatebin is the ability to show multiple pictures in one link. But it's not a deal breaker since it ticks all the other boxes. Like i said in another comment, if Tim's Firefox Send fork could just show pictures instead of a download link it would be perfect. I love its design and setup. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Croatwink · 2023-10-14 15:20 Mounting S3 with FUSE is in my experience a bad idea, a lot of timeouts and locking issues. I used to make raspberry pi monitoring cameras for my home like that, 5-8 years ago. Maybe FUSE has improved since then but I'm skeptical. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Croatwink · 2023-10-14 15:21 Just simplicity, I'm deploying it on a VPS with a lot of other services so I want to avoid deploying a database to avoid wasting resources that I'm paying for. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Croatwink · 2023-10-14 15:21 The point of S3 backend is that it's cheap storage. An sftp backend would not be as cheap. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Croatwink · 2023-10-14 15:28 Actually zipline looks so impressive that it might make me install a database. Thank you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kelthuzad12 · 2023-10-14 15:36 Sweet. I ended up looking for a solution for similar reasons and stumbled on it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 21stCenturyRetard · 2023-10-14 19:59 Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you need to create users for nextcloud...I've shared multiple files out to different clients and never had to create users for each one, I simply shared it via email by inputting their email address in the "share" part of the file. You do have to set up an email notification thingy for it to automatically send them an email ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BBaoVanC · 2023-10-15 04:42 If you think bobashare would work better for your use, I could try and add native S3 support; I've been bored looking for something interesting to work on recently. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Croatwink · 2023-10-15 08:54 You know what's crazy? I was kinda bored this weekend so I just wrote my own image pastebin. It took just one saturday, and I have some stuff to finish up today before I post it on the awesome selfhosted list. It's very, very basic and only made for my use case. Ticks all the boxes I mentioned in this thread, but nothing else. And writte in Python because that's all I feel comfortable in to prototype something real quickly. But it's like 100+ lines of Python, with Dropzone.js so I think it would be very simple to rewrite in Golang or Rust. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ECANErkDog · 2023-11-02 03:36 Hey Bud, a $5 VPS would work as a backend for that, you literally need nothing more than any httpd server & ssh. But sure. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ECANErkDog · 2023-11-02 03:38 Also, [https://ss.ecansol.com/uploads/2023/11/01/ShareX\_2023-11- 01\_23-37- 34.png](https://ss.ecansol.com/uploads/2023/11/01/ShareX_2023-11- 01_23-37-34.png) ShareX supports various S3 endpoints: [https://ss.ecansol.com/uploads/2023/11/01/ShareX\_2023-11-01\_23-38- 09.png](https://ss.ecansol.com/uploads/2023/11/01/ShareX_2023-11- 01_23-38-09.png) And I just SFTP those screenshots w/ ShareX up to our web server :-D ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Croatwink · 2023-11-02 06:57 But S3 storage is less than 5 USD/month. Anyways I ended up writing my own tool, it's just 200 lines of Python and does exactly what I wanted but nothing else.
