Portainer Storage reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- seabrileyrd · 2023-10-12 11:23 Hi guys! Homelab Newb over here. Just a general question but i’ve been trying to do a bunch of research to no avail. On portainer let’s say i wanted to host all of the Arr suite with plex, how would i setup the storage for that. Would i just give the VM on proxmox a bunch of storage ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-10-12 11:34 Correct, but you can mount any kind of storage to a container, local, NFS, CIFS, S3 and many more. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mosaati · 2023-10-12 14:55 The question is where do you plan to store your media? IMO storing it in the same VM or container is not optimal at all. Having it on a separate NAS and giving your portainer deployment (VM or LXC) an SMB access is much better. Another way is if you treat Proxmox as your NAS and create datasets for your media. From here you can bind mount points to LXC or create an SMB share and do the same as above for a VM. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- seabrileyrd · 2023-10-13 03:36 Pretty much i have my barematal Unraid server which is where i want the data/media files to be stored and the actual containers themselves to be on my proxmox server which has all the horsepower. Just don’t know how to map an SMB Share from my unraid to my portainer VM on my proxmox server. I don’t even know where to start 🥲 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mosaati · 2023-10-13 07:14 If your plan is for a VM and I'm guessing you plan to attach a GPU to it to use transcoding. Just make sure to prepare the Proxmox host by black listing the GPU. Then create the VM and attach the GPU and make sure that you see it inside the VM. Next create an SMB share (I recommend NFS but SMB works too) in Unraid and mount it to a folder/folders inside the VM. You can create your containers and mount the already mounted inside the VM shared folders as folders in the containers as if they are regular folders that were created inside the VM. If the instructions are a bit vague, you can do a search on Reddit or just Google for details about each step and you will find many tutorials.
