Best sync docker software? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- doctor-ase · 2023-10-12 08:08 I've read about syncthing, seafile, nextcloud and others, but I'm not sure which is the best. Which software do you recommend to sync files between devices? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-10-12 08:20 Depends on the devices and the files. The best way is to not sync at all but have a cetral data lake where you access that data from any kind of device (like via VPN). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- doctor-ase · 2023-10-12 08:44 Usually i want sync files for things like obsidian database, my mobile music and this type of things. Files that i need to have in different devices at same device for offline use or another software use. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-10-12 09:06 rsync? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Nezteb · 2023-10-12 09:13 Start with Syncthing and go from there. You can still use Syncthing on a VPS or in Docker if you’d like. Resilio Sync is also solid but costs a one-time purchase. Depending on how comfortable you are with CLI tools, rsync and rclone are other tools you could use. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mrcaptncrunch · 2023-10-12 09:15 Syncthing- https://syncthing.net Install on all your devices. It keeps everything in sync. It’s not just 1 way like rsync. You can look for videos demo-ing it to see it in action. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CrispyBegs · 2023-10-12 09:23 I had an absolute nightmare with syncthing and gave up on it in the end. just endless problems I couldn't fix. I'm sure it's me or my setup, since so many other people recommend it, but still. I tried resiliosync instead and it worked first time, out of the box, and hasn't stopped working since, so make of that what you will. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bobbyorlando · 2023-10-12 10:11 Do you run it in docker and if so, which image do you recommend? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JanBurianKaczan · 2023-10-12 11:07 seafile is awesome, especially integrated with oauth (Authelia) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Obvious_Employee · 2023-10-12 11:24 Resilio sync. It seems to be the only app that allows me to pick and choose which files I’d like to download from my nas onto my devices. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mrcaptncrunch · 2023-10-12 12:13 I do. I usually pick linuxserver images. They have a lot of services and behave similarly so it makes it easier for me. https://hub.docker.com/r/linuxserver/syncthing/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kernelcoffee · 2023-10-12 12:25 I've been using resilio since before syncthing existed. Works pretty well for me and my usage. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xdocx · 2023-10-12 12:35 Syncthing for the win ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CrispyBegs · 2023-10-12 15:01 fwiw, i haven't paid anything for resilio and it does everything I need perfectly, but i also wouldn't mind paying for it if i ever need any of the paid features ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MistiInTheStreet · 2023-10-12 15:22 Love Resilio too for some of my files. But definitely prefer Seafile for the one I need versioning. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- doctor-ase · 2023-10-12 17:45 What does authelia? I've read about it but I don't understand what it does exactly ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Nezteb · 2023-10-12 19:32 I didn't actually realize Resilio had a free plan; good shoutout! The pricing page says each of the paid plans "includes all free features", but I can't find anywhere that lists what the free features are. I wish they had a plan comparison matrix. 😅 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CrispyBegs · 2023-10-12 20:33 maybe this? https://help.resilio.com/hc/en-us/articles/204754419-Sync-FREE-vs- Sync-PRO ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JanBurianKaczan · 2023-10-12 20:53 basically it's a login screen, with 2fa, which you can put in front of your reverse proxy. For example, I have different domains like movies.xxxx.com tv.xxxxxx.com (radarr and sonarr) and each is first redirected to authentication backend (Authelia) which checks if I previously authenticated, if so it gets me to my service, if no a login screen is presented. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Fluffer_Wuffer · 2023-10-12 22:21 >Resilio Sync is also solid but costs a one-time purchase. I've been running Resilio for about 5 years.. its a solid piece of software and just quietly works in the background. I have something break at least once a month, whether its Plex or AudioBookShelf etc.. I shifted to running Resilio in a container on my Synology about 3-years ago, and it's so reliable, it's not natural, I occasionally login to double check its not tricking me, I'll jinx it now,
