Self hosted blogging engine reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NekoLuka · 2023-10-11 20:24 Hi, I wanna host a simple but modern blogging engine to share my journey and discoveries with the world. I would like it to store posts in files so that I can back it up using git or the like and that I can run it in docker (and doesn't have the looks of a mid 2000's website). Does anyone know of anything? I've looked at this list: [https://github.com/awesome- selfhosted/awesome-selfhosted#blogging- platforms](https://github.com/awesome-selfhosted/awesome- selfhosted#blogging-platforms). But nothing really fits what I'm looking for. Chyrp lite is the closest, but with no official docker support I also failed to get it working reliably with my own image. I hope you all have some ideas! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ushills · 2023-10-11 20:31 What about using something like Jekyll with Github pages? https://docs.github.com/en/pages/setting-up-a-github-pages-site-with- jekyll/about-github-pages-and-jekyll ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NekoLuka · 2023-10-11 20:32 That looks promising, I'll look into it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ushills · 2023-10-11 20:32 Or https://www.getlektor.com/ if you are into Python ---------------------------------------------------------------------- adamshand · 2023-10-11 20:36 Most people have moved from Jekyll to Hugo. But there are lots of them Google SSG or static site generators. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- virtualadept · 2023-10-11 22:31 Check out [Pelican](https://getpelican.com/), it might be closer to what you're looking for. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bubblegumpuma · 2023-10-11 22:38 I think you should look at some static site generators, probably, since that leaves you with an end product that can be hosted with any webserver quite easily. Hugo is the one that I use, and [it has a lot of nice themes for personal blogs and such](https://themes.gohugo.io/). Most of the themes I've looked at generate the pages from Markdown. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JumpingCoconutMonkey · 2023-10-12 01:15 Looks cool! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kaleodis · 2023-10-12 01:25 I just spun up a wordpress install (in docker, there is official support for it) and used a blog template. job done. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- revereddesecration · 2023-10-12 02:14 Ghost is great. Do you really need to back up your posts with git? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SeaNefariousness4835 · 2023-10-12 02:15 GitHub or gitlab with mkdocs (material theme is awesome). Super easy setup and customization, all you need to know is how to write in markdown (with pages and ci/cd pipeline Everytime you change the main branch your stuff gets posted). It can all be done for free without exposing your home network. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- s3_gunzel · 2023-10-12 06:13 I personally find Cloudflare Pages to be a better option, having used both. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Nagashitw · 2023-10-12 08:56 This is the way ---------------------------------------------------------------------- alhevi · 2023-10-12 10:16 Check out the Astro framework, you can write blogs in markdown. A default blogging theme also exists where you have a directory to store the blog md files. The site then getting them automatically from the directory ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lilolalu · 2023-10-12 16:02 Kirby is nice although not free: https://getkirby.com/buy ---------------------------------------------------------------------- isThisRight-- · 2023-10-13 11:17 I truly enjoy Python because of stuff like this. Seriously, people do so many cool things with the language, like what hasn’t been done yet? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- virtualadept · 2023-10-13 16:36 `import soul` :)
