Pi-hole beta for v6 reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jivanyatra · 2023-10-11 01:12 Searched but didn't see a post here for it. I know many people use adguard these days, but I don't use it for a variety of reasons and I've stuck with pi-hole. The beta for v6 has a bunch of changes! * Docker container based on alpine * No php or lighttpd dependencies * Support for ABP style block lists * Baked in https support (and can generate self-signed certs on its own) * Server-side pagination (to keep the UI snappy) In case there are other pihole die-hards out there, you can try the beta in a docker instance and help beta test. [Pi-Hole v6 Beta call for testers](https://pi- hole.net/blog/2023/10/09/pi-hole-v6-beta-testing/) (I'm not affiliated in any official way, just a fan.) I'm sad I didn't see baked in DoT support. Since the alpine image is fairly light, I may throw this on a VPS that I use with Kasm and other things, and it might be useful in that situation, idk. Most complaints I've seen are for ABP-style lists, and they seem to have addressed that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- EndlessHiway · 2023-10-11 01:17 Thanks for the post. Seems like some great updates. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jivanyatra · 2023-10-11 01:18 Thanks! Figured it can't hurt to let others know. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Crazy-Hall8823 · 2023-10-11 02:49 I fell down the stairs when I was reading this post. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jivanyatra · 2023-10-11 03:02 I... sit corrected. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Cybasura · 2023-10-11 03:58 Question, what feature changes will v6 have? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ExoWire · 2023-10-11 06:40 What are the variety of reasons against Adguard Home? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- EndlessHiway · 2023-10-11 13:11 The ones he listed in the post. 🙄 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bufandatl · 2023-10-11 13:36 It’s not Adguard home. For real though in general there are no big differences just personal preferences for the most part. For me it comes down to adguard not having an LCARS interface option. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mdibound · 2023-10-11 14:05 I'm using unchained DNS forwarder/cache in freebsd, with a pretty extensive resolver blacklist. Would there be an advantage to using Pihole instead? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Cybasura · 2023-10-11 14:06 No not the version changes and dependencies Im talking about functionalities, button presses, support etc etc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- EndlessHiway · 2023-10-11 15:01 The ones listed in the post.🙄 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sockrocker · 2023-10-11 15:37 The massive one for me is being able to selectively apply block lists to groups. My wife hates some of the more aggressive ad-blocking I do, so I'd like to easily apply the malware-type lists to her devices but not the ad-blocking. Can't do that in AGH. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- reddragond · 2023-10-11 16:45 The only reason I switched to Adguard was because I can run it right in opnsense. Otherwise if I had to reboot my server my internet went down. If I have to reboot my firewall I’m losing internet anyway! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Defiant-Ad-5513 · 2023-10-12 05:22 It can auto update the blocklist and is for your entire network
