Synology Photos vs. Immich reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jtmpush18 · 2023-10-10 20:48 Can someone please comment on the pluses and minuses of these two alternatives? I'd like to move off Google photos to a self hosted alternative (I've got a Synology NAS, and I've also got a SFF with storage space). I don't have a huge collection of photos, could be around .5TB. My only requirement is I have to be able to retrieve photos by date, place, and or person. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-10 21:02 Since you already own a Synology device and you dont need to spend any money and you already have the Synology Photos app there, why not simply deploy Immich on your SFF for example and compare the two apps yourself? The easiest and most efficient way. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- peg_tech_inc · 2023-10-11 06:05 While choosing alternatives you may pay more attention to the easy of setup and the data recovery, it is the most important when you choose them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- javijuji · 2023-10-11 23:12 To add to this you should also consider if you are gonna continue using synology products in the future. Immich can be deployed on different hardware with no issues since it runs on docker. Synology photos on the other hand will require either a Synologyh NAS or a Synology VM or Xpenology ---------------------------------------------------------------------- isleepbad · 2023-10-12 13:11 Depends on your use case. If you want any chance of ease of use and sharing with the family, go with Synology photos. If you're just using it by yourself go with immich. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- laterral · 2023-10-30 06:38 What’s the best way of sharing that makes s photos an easier choice for you?
