Favorite self-hosted resources? Status update? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NearbyYak7156 · 2023-10-09 17:03 Please share your favorite self-hosted resources: blogs, YouTube channels, websites, etc. that you regularly consume. Would love to hear about your personal blogs/write ups and stories about your recent achievements, services that you switched for another service, or anything you've wanted to talk about as well. Personally, I got a mini-pc and started my first server yesterday. Setup proxmox w/ a debian VM + docker and started hosting a simple dashboard, Immich, bookstack, paperless, game servers, etc. Connected everything using Tailscale and started backing up files to the server. Was surprised with how easy everything is these days with docker considering that I've never setup a server before; although I've learned a lot by lurking in this sub everyday. Was able to set everything up with basically no issues so far in a couple of hours. How's everyone doing and what have you been working on recently? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Stetsed · 2023-10-09 17:22 So ofcourse I am gonna plug my own blog ([https://stetsed.xyz](https://stetsed.xyz)) I don't write much currently but do sometimes dump stuff on there when I decide to do so and I think it's useful. However some things I have liked is [https://noted.lol](https://noted.lol) as a blog which shows off content(really like there style) I sometimes scroll through [https://awweso.me/](https://awweso.me/) as it's really nice so find new tools, similar to awesome-selfhosted website(I think it grabs from the same repo lol). Besides this I have just setup backups using rclone and GarageHQ(S3 compatible selfhosted storage), and then daily, weekly, monthly and it will delete after X period. I've been documenting more stuff inside of my bookstack to make it easy to find incase of loss(I don't backup everything, as some stuff is just 1 docker-compose.yml file that I just put in my bookstack).Next to this I have been working on my Linux ISO collection and making that higher quality and doing some QOL stuff(such as adding nice cover images on Jellyfin). And currently I am about to work on some HA stuff with Keepalived so stuff like my DNS server, nginx instance etc will be redudant via VRRP. And working on some BGP/ASN related stuff to remove some bottlenecks. Happy to see this sub helps you and I hope you will continue to enjoy selfhosting as I have :D ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NearbyYak7156 · 2023-10-09 17:53 Thanks for sharing your blog! Going through it right now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-09 18:05 /r/selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sk1nT7 · 2023-10-09 18:08 Also have a blog and write about some docker stacks and setups. May be a good read from time to time - or not, who knows. https://blog.lrvt.de/ I do also have a public github repo with many compose examples. May check it out: https://github.com/Haxxnet/Compose-Examples Other from that, the typical stuff on Youtube like: - https://youtube.com/@NetworkChuck - https://youtube.com/@TechnoTim - https://youtube.com/@DBTechYT - https://youtube.com/@christianlempa ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NeoJackOfBlades · 2023-10-09 18:14 This site helped me a lot in setting up some in my home lab. things like backup, configuring docker services, samba. Using a lot of automation with ansible. [thesmarthomejourney](https://thesmarthomejourney.com/) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FunkMunki · 2023-10-09 18:39 I have a personal blog about self-hosted stuff: [selfhostit.dev](https://selfhostit.dev). I started out with a raspberry pi 4, only using it for Home Assistant. Eventually it started acting up on me so I moved up to a 12th gen Intel NUC running proxmox. My most recent setup on the NUC is an Arr stack and a media drive upgrade from 2TB to 12TB. Once I got the stack set up and gave my wife access to Jellyseerr that poor 2tb started filling up real quick. I started this journey about 4 years ago with no server knowledge and very little linux knowledge. I think I'm pretty proficient with it all now. I still have a a lot to learn though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KillerTic · 2023-10-09 19:07 This seems to be the thread, for all the self-hosters with a blog/website :D I am also shamelessly going to share the page I just started and intent to add a lot more guides to. Aimed more at the newbies with some knowledge, then the full on experts. https://nerdyarticles.com/ Apart from that, the following two have been big resources for me: https://www.smarthomebeginner.com/ https://technotim.live/ (especially his YouTube) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CrispyBegs · 2023-10-09 19:28 another vote for [noted.lol](https://noted.lol) and also [https://www. youtube.com/@DBTechYT/videos](https://www.youtube.com/@DBTechYT/videos ) is really good ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Cylian91460 · 2023-10-09 20:26 Here are my rankings: GitHub readme Man --help Code ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MacGyver4711 · 2023-10-09 20:40 Have a bunch of stuff self-hosted, but the most satisfying is the combination of Docker,. Cloudflare tunnels and Guacamole in my Proxmox cluster. I do have a bunch of other stuff (Plex, Gitea, HomeAssistant, Adguard, MySQL, PostgreQL, Wazuh, CheckMK etc), but having a secure remote access to my lab is right out handy dandy. No state secrets in my lab, so Cloudflare is ok with me for now. I do have a Wireguard backup if Cloudflare fails, though (like they did for some today) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nashosted · 2023-10-09 20:57 All the blogs I follow can be seen on [OSSRSS](https://ossrss.com) I’m always looking for more to add. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- VoidQuark · 2023-10-09 21:30 I usually don’t prefer any blogs, but I wrote one myself at https://voidquark.com/blog It covers topics related to Ansible, including Ansible roles, and features Grafana dashboards for SSH, Nextcloud, and PrivateBin. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Basementfruit · 2023-10-09 21:55 Nice collection Is it possible to subscribe to your collection as rss so i can read all the blogs you collect on my rss app? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nashosted · 2023-10-09 22:31 There may be a way but not natively. You can add them all to your feed manually though haha. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vapourium · 2023-10-09 23:38 https://selfh.st/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Franceesios · 2023-10-10 02:10 Ive installed CasaOS, that took the whole fun away....everything just works flawlessly... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TikTak9k1 · 2023-10-10 05:08 Last weekend I had to find out why PHP wasnt working properly on my web server. Turns out it was read/write permissions, but also having a docker instance that combines nginx+php-fpm instead of running those 2 as seperate instances solved the problem. I'm pretty content with my homelab now. It's segmented with VLANS, is relatively speaking easy manageable because I chose hyper-v as the HV. When I do updates I make a checkpoint to make sure I can restore if something breaks. And with docker I seperated the data files from the instance. Networking and subnetting isn't my forte, but all in all you can do enough by just making multiple 192.168.x.0/24 ranges. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Michaelscarn69- · 2023-10-10 06:14 I’m just getting started on this. Could you please tell me where to get started? Basically I’m lost. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Michaelscarn69- · 2023-10-10 06:17 I have started hosting too but tbh, I’m a bit lost and not sure where to get started or what to learn. Could you please tell me what got you started in hosting(what were your needs and how you approached it)? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FunkMunki · 2023-10-10 07:39 Get started on what exactly? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2023-10-10 07:45 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NeoJackOfBlades · 2023-10-10 11:07 I really dont understand why I 'm downvoted haha ---------------------------------------------------------------------- deano_southafrican · 2023-10-10 13:46 This is epic. A lot of familiar sites that I already follow but I really enjoy finding guys promoting their own blogs. It's always interesting to me, got a bunch here I wanna check out! I'm also starting a blog, I've always enjoyed writing and I've written a few articles, I might never actually share or promote it but I enjoy writing about whatever I'm interested in at that moment! Also, since you asked, I have to just shout out BookStack, probably my number 1 used app at the moment, love everything about it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- deano_southafrican · 2023-10-10 16:30 Added to my feed, looks really good :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- deano_southafrican · 2023-10-10 16:43 There seems to be some salty people in here, mostly downvoting those that plug their own sites but I don't know why yours. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- deano_southafrican · 2023-10-10 16:45 Start slow, play with what you find interesting and just stay curious. Theres so much information out there that you'll be able to set thing up no problem. Just don't risk your lifes photos and documents unnecessarily. Backups are your friend, test them too! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iavael · 2023-10-10 17:54 My favourite selfhosted resource is ::1, top2 is 127.0.0.1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NeoJackOfBlades · 2023-10-10 18:45 >There seems to be some salty people in here, mostly downvoting those that plug their own sites but I don't know why yours. The funny thing is that the site isn't even mine. This site is from a guy who was setting up his smart home. So, browsing the posts I ended up seeing some cool insights to set up my home lab. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Defiant-Ad-5513 · 2023-10-10 20:22 Do you mean https://garagehq.deuxfleurs.fr/ because if so i have a question as i am currently setting up ceph and looki g for alternatives. Do you know if it can use different size hdd's + ssd's as cache in HA mode ?
