Intranet domains and certificate issues reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Due_Faith976 · 2023-10-08 22:15 Prefix, I am so new to self hosting and trying to do my own research but I keep hitting roadblocks. I have several home lab services running. Some that I make public through cloud flare tunnels and some I want to keep private. I have proxmox running on my servers and I want the proxmox admin page to be a local url I can visit that’s https. In my head I would use pihole to point the domain (I want to try home.server) to nginx reverse proxy manager. Nginx would then send it to the correct ip and would have a certificate for it. The issue is I haven’t been able to get nginx to grab a certificate from let’s encrypt for the url. The other issue is that I haven’t gotten the the url to work through nginx I can do it directly to the service with pihole but then I need to enter the port number which I want to avoid. What can I do to move this in the right direction? What am I missing? Any resources I should read up on? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AnnualOasis · 2023-10-08 22:22 I have two instances of NPM. One is public facing and uses cloudflare certificates. The other is private facing and uses a let’s encrypt DNS challenge for the certificates ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-08 22:25 > (I want to try home.server) Please do not make up domains (TLDs) for your home network. Use what is intended for it to avoid issues, for example `example.lan` `example.privat` `example.home.arpa` ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Due_Faith976 · 2023-10-09 00:06 Wow this was really clear and helpful. I used this post https://www.reddit.com/r/unRAID/comments/kniuok/howto _add_a_wildcard_certificate_in_nginx_proxy/ To help me as well. Thank you so much I finally have working urls for home services now! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-09 01:31 Good :)
