Windows Server and DNS domain names how setup? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ThenOrganization1123 · 2023-10-08 09:05 Hi all, all the tutorials I find on the Internet do not answer my question. I have Windows Server 2022 on which I want to run my website. So far, I have used hosting, e.g. Bluehost, where parking a domain is child's play. How to create a name server on Windows Server where I can later park my domain? For example: ns1.mydomain.com ns2.mydomain.com I have symmetrical Internet access with static IP address. All the tutorials I find on the Internet describe how to create a DNS server for a local network, and I need to “open myself to the world”. Secondly, is it possible to create two name servers so that each leads to the same IP address but to two different websites? For example: ns1.nameserver.com and ns2.nameserver.com ———> 137.220.***.** ———> 192.168.**.** ——-> website 1 And ns1.secondary.com, ns2.secondary.com ——-> 137.220.***.** ———> 192.168.**.** ——-> website 2 Thank you in advance for your help, but I'm a complete noob in this matter and I would really like to learn how to configure it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-10-08 11:18 Use a reverse proxy and you can proxy to any website by its hostname. No need for different IPs in DNS. ---> 137.220:443 reverse proxy ---> website A or B As for nameservers. You need to forward UDP 53 to your Windows server and simply setup a DNS zone for each domain. I would not recommend Windows as an external facing DNS server but rather a linux container with bind in it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ThenOrganization1123 · 2023-10-08 13:25 Thank you for quick reply. Can you tell me how join this with domain bought from GoDaddy or any other registrar services? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-10-08 13:45 You set the your static IPv4 address as your nameserver at godaddy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ThenOrganization1123 · 2023-10-08 13:51 Thank you! It works :) last question…what record I should give if I want my domain example.com direct to subfolder? Example.com -> 137.220.****->192.168.1*/website1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-10-08 14:11 That only works if you use a reverse proxy like nginx. All DNS can do is convert a name into an IP and vice versa. Nginx is a very good reverse proxy that can do what you want. I recommend using containers, but they don't work too well on Windows. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ThenOrganization1123 · 2023-10-08 14:23 I just noticed that docker doesn't work well on Windows, unlike Debian where everything runs at the speed of light. I have a second computer with Linux and NGINX proxy manager installed. If Linux has the address 192.***.8 and Windows Server 192.***4 will NGINX proxy manager allow me to redirect the domain to a subfolder? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-10-08 14:31 Yes. You can tell nginx to redirect the url to the IP. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ThenOrganization1123 · 2023-10-08 15:50 Can you tell me what I’m doing wrong? IP: 192.168.1.7 is Windows server, my domain milewski.live redirects to my Linux server 192.168.1.6 where NGINX is installed. How redirect in proxy manager all traffic to from 192.168.1.6 to 192.168.1.7? [https://imageupload .io/3ew8V5VZB3VOrcu](https://imageupload.io/3ew8V5VZB3VOrcu)
