How can I create a self hosted tampermonkey? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TrayGhost · 2023-10-08 05:44 [Tampermonkey](https://www.tampermonkey.net/) lets you run little javascript programs on any website you want. It also lets you easily install other's userscripts. I use it a lot and it used to be on [github](https://github.com/Tampermonkey/tampermonkey) until version 2.9. I guess I could use that but wondering if there are some other nice selfhosted versions where I can easily modify my Chrome webpages that I should consider. I'm a newb so am guessing the answer is "don't use Chrome", in which case maybe there's a p Chromelike or half-chrome self-hosted thing I could do? Baby steps :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NikStalwart · 2023-10-08 06:10 There are other *monkey alternatives like violent, grease, etc. Check out [one of many threads on /r/firefox](https://www.reddit.com/r/firef ox/comments/hln33b/is_greasemonkey_tampermonkey_or_violentmonkey_the/) on the subject. I mention FireFox because, these days, Chrome and Firefox use the same webextensions API for browser extensions so what works on one should work on the other (with some edgecases). One 'hacky' solution is to load a local/developer extension into chrome and 'refresh' it every time you put a userscript into the extension folder on your local machine. You then need to edit either the manifest of the extension to match URL patterns to the script file being loaded, OR you can define loading rules within the script itself. This will require some degree (but not much) of familiarity with writing javascript code. Ask GitHub Copilot for help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jkadogo · 2023-10-09 00:09 +1 for Violentmonkey. I think that Geasymonkey is slow or maybe not updated anymore, I didn't check. Tampermonkey is not opensource. So i started using Violentmonkey and it works properly for now but I don't use many userscripts so I'm maybe not a reference.
