Setting up Mealie reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Blakezilla100 · 2023-10-08 01:31 Hey guys, I have only installed Container Manager on my NAS today and been playing around with it. I installed default Mealie and it set up. I can access it no problem. However I am wondering where the information is going. I tried to edit the yaml file but it wouldnt let me put in the mealie folder in docker so left it as default. It set up, but not sure where the data is going. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-08 02:01 > However I am wondering where the information is going. I tried to edit the yaml file but it wouldnt let me put in the mealie folder in docker so left it as default. Honestly, no fucking idea what you mean. Maybe just simply ask the devs directy? https://github.com/mealie-recipes/mealie/discussions ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kevdawg464 · 2023-10-08 02:13 I think there is a postgres database that it uses ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Blakezilla100 · 2023-10-08 02:13 Where would I find it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- revereddesecration · 2023-10-08 02:20 It might not be anywhere outside of the container. The easiest way to find out is to bring it down then back up again. If the database is reset, it’s not being stored persistently. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kevdawg464 · 2023-10-08 02:27 Here is the installation checklist that is given on the site: [https://nightly.mealie.io/documentation/getting- started/installation/installation- checklist/](https://nightly.mealie.io/documentation/getting- started/installation/installation-checklist/) Personally, I used the PostgreSQL installation method and can access all of my data through the volume as defined in example docker- compose: volumes: mealie-data: driver: local mealie-pgdata: driver: local ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Blakezilla100 · 2023-10-08 02:48 I did this route, however I made the folder mealie not mealie-data. When I look into the folder in docker it just has the yaml file ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Blakezilla100 · 2023-10-08 02:48 The information is recipes etc so I can back them up ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kevdawg464 · 2023-10-08 02:51 In docker, the first part of the volume definition is just the name of the volume. So in this case, you named the volume `mealie` but the data is still stored inside the container under the absolute path of `/app/data`. If you wanted to change the location of the data **inside the container**, then you need to change the volume definition to something like: volumes: mealie:/app/mealie/data/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ButCaptainThatsMYRum · 2023-10-08 03:00 100% recommend using bind minds for local storage when using docker. It makes things so much easier to migrate or edit config files inside containers that don't support nano/vim. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-08 03:35 Still doesnt make any sense. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Blakezilla100 · 2023-10-08 04:31 Sorry I'm really new to this. I can't even find the app folder ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ncell50 · 2023-10-08 05:25 By default it is saved in sqlite database which is in /app/data inside the container. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kevdawg464 · 2023-10-08 05:38 What tools are you using for this? Are you comfortable with the command line interface? The information you're looking for will be in the container itself which you'll need to interact with directly. Just Google how to get shell access inside a container and you'll be able to get to the /app folder ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Blakezilla100 · 2023-10-08 06:13 Using Synology container manager. I think I can access the command line ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ewixy750 · 2023-10-08 07:25 Mealie stores data in a dabatase, look at your docker run / composé what type of DB you chose and where you decided to store it in your NAS. You just need to copy paste the DB if you want an extra copy. There's an import / export feature too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Blakezilla100 · 2023-10-08 07:25 Can't find it in the webui ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ewixy750 · 2023-10-08 07:30 Settings, then backup Just using a snapshot, but if you want a pdf version of the recipes... Print to pdf directly from your browser? Do you want to do a backup? export to another software? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Blakezilla100 · 2023-10-08 07:56 Was more if things got wiped I could upload something if it had that capability ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ewixy750 · 2023-10-08 14:22 If you use docker just backup the volume folder, and if there's an issue just re launch a, new container with the same volume folder. That's what I do and it works seamlessly ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Jayparm · 2023-10-12 15:55 Hey, can you just use volumes (bind types) to store your data?
