Which selfhosted(inside VM) NAS for all-SSD raid? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chub0ka · 2023-10-07 19:08 Got bunch of 8tb SSDs and want to do a selfhosted NAS on those. Today i run omv inside VM(but i can do same with cli only debian of course) but no raid. Like unraid as an idea( parity protection but ni striping) but dont like being propeietary(fine with paying 100$ for it) and also it says SSD in a raid is experimental. Dont like slackware but like it having KVM, so can consider it running in host as supervisor instead. Can do mdraid in Linux obviously, but not big fan of raids as not flexibility and dont need striping for speed. Xigmanas with ZFS is another option but no expwrience with BSD/ZFS. And only inside VM. There is BTRFS raid option but not sure how mature and safe that is ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sk1nT7 · 2023-10-07 19:55 TrueNAS Core? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- neroita · 2023-10-07 20:33 lvm ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Plane_Resolution7133 · 2023-10-07 20:50 Which hypervisor are you running? Proxmox is on ZFS, so no real need for a NAS running. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lilolalu · 2023-10-07 20:53 Encryption? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chub0ka · 2023-10-07 21:09 Yes i d like that. With oassthrough and resizable bars or sriov etc do a lot of custom qemu options in xml file ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chub0ka · 2023-10-07 21:12 Single volume per raid is fine with me as long as i can do shares and add disks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zee_G68 · 2023-10-08 04:26 OpenMediaVault is a great NAS S/W to Install. It comes with extra apps to run, called plugins. There’s also the possibility to install Docker.
