Well that didn’t last long. Used Recoll on desktop for years for
document storage. Works great. The index is big, like 50% of the size
of the source material though.

So three things are different. It copies everything again and converts
to PDF, even PDFs get extra pages added. I get no context (clip of tge
search results) in the index. And to top it off somehow it turned 0.4
TB into 1.9 TB and growing even with no more input! And whatever it is
doing, CPU load is more than Immich which runs huge AI models for face
and subject recognition in photos and video,

Back to Recoll. I had high hopes since Recoll is more finicky about
spelling.
