Ebook + Manga Reader + SSO Conundrum! reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MothGirlMusic · 2023-10-07 12:16 Long time reader, first time poster lol. I've got a conundrum to solve here with some software. i use kavita which is great, however i also am the sysadmin for a large community who needs access to it. we host a bunch of online chats, game servers, etc. so we put up a pdf library and a manga reader for community members who are fans of manga or wanted to read our sheet music collection, etc. just a random library of PDFs we have in the community vault so to speak. and now the members can see it! or well, thats where the conundrum starts. kavita doesn't support SSO, so i have to manually invite every single last member manually. so, TL;DR does anyone here have a favourite ebook/manga reader that supports SSO? In all honesty, the SSO is rather important so if you know of an SSO- enabled manga reader or an SSO-enabled ebook reader let me know! I would rather host two software options with SSO rather than one without SSO. As a side note: I absolutely love the community here. I'm mostly too shy to post, but really value the input i see here and the tools and awesome stuff that gets posted. thank you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thegreatincognitum · 2023-10-07 12:34 You could also put something like authentik in front of it that would handle the sso. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- houndofthegrey · 2023-10-07 13:36 Komga supports [OAuth & OpenID](https://komga.org/docs/installation/oauth2), I use it with Authentik and it works pretty well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mlcsthor · 2023-10-07 13:36 For mangas [Komga](https://komga.org) supports OIDC and for ebooks [Calibre-web](https://github.com/janeczku/calibre-web) supports LDAP. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- emprahsFury · 2023-10-07 15:38 SSO is the most request feature Kavita currently has requests for https://feats.kavitareader.com/posts/23/alternative-account-provider But it was sent in 2021, 2 years later no response. I'm sure if it does come it'll be a Kavita+ feature. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SelectCase · 2023-10-07 15:59 This is what do with most things. Authentik reverse proxy for SSO is magical. The learning curve is steep, but compared to the other SSOs I think it's probably easiest to figure out ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MothGirlMusic · 2023-10-07 23:05 yes! we use authentik and its great! however, kavita doesn't allow guest mode. but i bet i could more easily find an ebook/manga reader that doesn't require a sign-in. great idea! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MothGirlMusic · 2023-10-07 23:07 it really is. and i totally agree wit hthe learning curve. i had no idea what i was doing but in \~3 hours of messing around it just clicked and its been really intuitive to solve any issue we've encountered. the only real issue i've had is LDAP authentication. its just a little buggy compared to other options but can be easily solved by using openLDAP as a proxy in front. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MothGirlMusic · 2023-10-07 23:09 >https://feats.kavitareader.com/posts/23/alternative-account-provider hah! this is very true. its not the link you posted, but in one of the many of them, you'll find me giving good reasons why they should make attempts to support it. though on the other side, i do understand the author's struggle as they stated a full rewrite would need to happen to be able to support it.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MothGirlMusic · 2023-10-07 23:13 THANK YOU! ITS PERFECT! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MothGirlMusic · 2023-10-07 23:14 Thank you! While komga seems to market itself as a manga reader, it does say on the website that its made for ebooks as well, which makes it absolutely perfect! calibre-web looks really cool but i think komga is powerful enough to support all our needs it looks like! thank you!
