Movies and Series are being deleted from Library and not sure why reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheKevinBoone · 2023-10-07 09:14 Hi everyone, I'm getting a bit desperate at this point so wanted to share this story to hopefully gain some insights of why this is happening. I have a proxmox server connected to a NAS and a drive extension bay. I have a bout 12 LXC's running all setup via [https://tteck.github.io/Proxmox/](https://tteck.github.io/Proxmox/) these scripts. I host a bunch of ARR suite apps in combination with Overseerr to request media and nginx as a reverse proxy for Emby/Plex. Everything else regarding access to the outside world is done via Cloudflare tunnels. I also have a workstation where I run Tdarr and transcode files from my library and replace them with new transcoded files. [Server overview with connected drives from NAS and extension bay](htt ps://preview.redd.it/rk4113bdwqsb1.png?width=202&format=png&auto=webp& s=17b0f8675901f18b29ac6d33c40905f07bce2c02) My setup had been running flawlessly until recently, when i started to notice that seemingly, Radarr and Sonarr were both deleting files from my library. This is the second time this happened, at first, I thought it had something to do with naming conventions, that if the app was doing a full scan and disassociated the files somehow. But after redownloading and double-checking folder names, and permissions, reinstalling the LXC's and manually moving stuff I thought it was all resolved. This morning I woke up to this: https://preview.redd.it/xcjegq7kwqsb1.png?width=1913&format=png&auto=w ebp&s=6db06c5491dd229c35333972f25d952a91f807e1 Same for Sonarr, a couple of series on a particular disk are gone. For the movies, the exact same story - the same movies that disappeared the first time are now deleted and gone too. For the series it is different some series have remained but most of the series that were deleted the first time are gone again. What could be the root cause of this? I have been working this way for several years without any issues but getting a bit desperate now. Could it be that someone hacked me from the outside? I would expect more files at random deleted and some more strange things if this was the case, or is my drive maybe failing? This is a fairly new drive so not sure why it would be failing. Anyone with similar experiences or suggestions on where to start looking, not sure where to look for access logs or logs to see who deleted those files, to begin with... If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask - might rushed a bit to put this on Reddit so will edit the post if relevant information is missing to make an assessment. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Raithmir · 2023-10-07 13:12 Download client saving direct to the library location and it's deleting the files when removed from downloads? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheKevinBoone · 2023-10-07 14:23 Appreciate your answer and thinking, downloads are in a seperate folder for incomplete and completed downloads from SAB - Sonarr/Radarr picks up the files from the complete folder for import in the library. The deleted files i'm referring too are from the library. Funny enough, only the video files are gone, I can still see the folders, NFO files, Posters and Subtitles ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Raithmir · 2023-10-07 15:26 Definitely odd then. Anything in the Sonarr/Radarr logs? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheKevinBoone · 2023-10-07 15:36 Nothing except the notification that the file was not found so the link was deleted in the DB. If this was caused because of a slight network/connection hiccup, I would assume that Sonarr/Radarr would pick it up with the next refresh run again and would create the link if the file was not moved or deleted. So I’m starting to suspect another application for deleting the video files, since all other files can be found either still in the folder in the library or the configured bin folder. I’m also running a bad sector scan on the disk since this behavior is only limited to a specific drive, everything else remains untouched ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Raithmir · 2023-10-07 15:39 My next guess would be something Tdarr is doing then? That's one app I haven't played with yet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheKevinBoone · 2023-10-07 15:44 I made the same conclusion but never had issues with it until now. Going to redownload and not use Tdarr to see if the behavior manifests again. I m noticing some old paths in Sonarr/Radarr with an older naming convention, that’s the only change I made recently. Initially I thought this was what caused the deletion but even after using the Trasshh guide naming conventions, the deletion happened again after a week. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheKevinBoone · 2023-10-07 17:24 Just tried the faulty disk on a Windows machine and it immediatly went into repair mode and freed up 2 TB of space, the allocated space for the series and movies that have been in limbo - hopefully this has fixed the issue of files being mysteriously deleted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheMadArchivst · 2023-10-07 19:24 Friend if mine had the same issue and he covered thep was breaking into his system and specifically deleting entertainment files. Keep an eye your logs and do who is any suspicious ips.
