Setting up a VPS as a mail relay, with the mail storage locally reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Superdoughnut1 · 2023-10-07 07:59 Hi, I have a basic VPS that I have configured to mainly act as a wireguard server. Recently I set it up as a mail server using the ISPmail tutorial and it works fine. I'm looking to expand my mail server and would rather primarily use my local machine for better performance (for stuff like clamav and more storage) and setup the VPS as a relay instead so that all mail related will come in and out of the VPS still rather than my home network. I would try and go for routing the ports using wireguard, but [this comm ent](https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/comments/a81zxg/comment/ec7r7fa/ ?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) suggests mail could still be received if my home machine is down. I've done a bit of looking online, but am struggling to find a tutorial or similar that would help me pull it off well. If anyone has anything to help or other options to help me achieve something similar please let me know. Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- voxadam · 2023-10-07 08:23 Aren't the IPs associated with VPS providers borderline banned by major mail providers meaning everything immediately gets marked as spam? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Superdoughnut1 · 2023-10-07 08:33 It is on a list unfortunately. I do want to try and make it work myself and if I decide to use it more I'd probably move to a proper relay service
