How can I send notifications to users using Ntfy but prevent them to write into the topic? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hello-please-help · 2023-10-06 19:48 Hi. If I wanted to send manual push notifications to a team of people using ntfy, how can I make sure they can subscribe and read the topic but only I can send the notifications with POST? I have already tried researching the docs, but I can't find anything and I don't seem to understand it. Thank you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DoTheThingNow · 2023-10-06 20:06 From what I’m seeing that isn’t how ntfy works. Nfty simple pushes a notification of some event you’ve tied into it - there is no read/write function at all. What are you pulling the notifications from? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vicerious · 2023-10-06 20:40 Ntfy provides a `ntfy` command-line tool which can be used to configure many things about the ntfy service, including [access control](https://push.sairaag.com/docs/config/#access-control). For example, if you had an `announcements` topic: 1. `ntfy access everyone announcements read` sets the `announcements` topic globally read-only. 1. use `nfty user add ` to create a user for yourself. * You might also want to `ntfy token add ` to generate an access token for yourself to use for pushing. 1. `ntfy access rw` to grant yourself read+write to the `announcements` topic. If you're running ntfy inside a docker container, you can run the `ntfy` CLI tool by `docker exec /usr/bin/ntfy` ---------------------------------------------------------------------- epsiblivion · 2023-10-06 23:05 it does have read/write permissions if you selfhost it. i haven't tried the hosted version but the dev has added password protected channels for public topics. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DoTheThingNow · 2023-10-07 02:46 “public topics” so its like a twitteresqe thing? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- revereddesecration · 2023-10-07 15:34 No, it’s pub/sub. Look into MQTT. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hello-please-help · 2023-10-07 22:36 Thanks a lot!! I'll look into it!! :)
