A tool to keep track of version updates reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- vitarist · 2023-10-06 05:23 I would like to find a tool to keep track of a list of my software, libraries current version and latest version. It could be a simple Excelsheet. The current version can be maintained manually, but the latest version should be updated manually. Would be even better if it supports coding libraries versions as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dogeek · 2023-10-06 06:44 I'm currently writing a kubernetes operator that checks annotations on deployments to notify of a github release. Maybe that can be handy for you ? Though I realize that not everyone is into self hosting with such a heavy duty orchestrator. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Spuxilet · 2023-10-06 10:00 Whatsupdocker works great for this and it even has regex to track exact image tags as you wish. https://imgur.com/mbPFPSw ---------------------------------------------------------------------- vitarist · 2023-10-06 15:34 Thank you ---------------------------------------------------------------------- vitarist · 2023-10-06 15:34 Thank you ---------------------------------------------------------------------- macrowe777 · 2023-10-06 18:44 Is this not solved by good gitops and renovate? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dogeek · 2023-10-06 20:18 I did not know about renovate, it seems like it could do the job just fine. My main goal is to get notifications that an app I'm hosting has an update available. I'm not running helm nor kpt for my manifest deployments, just plain kubectl + kustomize. Just having an operator that checks for `github.com/owner: 'jellyfin'` and `github.com/repo: 'jellyfin'` to fetch `https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin/releases.atom` and compare the latest item with the `app.kubernetes.io/version` annotation fits my use case. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- macrowe777 · 2023-10-06 20:39 >I'm not running helm nor kpt for my manifest deployments, just plain kubectl + kustomize. You don't need to run helm for gitops, but a solution like Argocd or (the other one that's more popular I can't remember) will make your life way easier. >My main goal is to get notifications that an app I'm hosting has an update available Renovate will give you a pull request (which you can have as a notification) so you literally only need to accept to update. >Just having an operator that checks for github.com/owner: 'jellyfin' and github.com/repo: 'jellyfin' to fetch https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin/releases.atom and compare the latest item with the app.kubernetes.io/version annotation fits my use case. I'd say that's more effort imo, never mind creating the app. >I also want to make something that works with other git servers Renovate does. >or other sources of release feeds Unsure what you're capturing here but would be surprised if renovate didn't. Honestly I wrote my own app to do this and binned it off when rennovate was released.
