Selfhosted or not for python projects + blogs reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nofinancialliteracy ยท 2023-10-05 18:41 I plan to host a few small websites with different domains (2-3 blogs for myself and some family members) and a few small services for my own use with a Python backend [mostly some very simple dashboard style pages but maybe a few machine learning related projects that may or may not get resource intensive]. I have been considering doing it on my Raspberry Pi but am unsure if I can keep it safe as a public-facing server. [This is actually what I want to do since I want to learn how to host stuff on my own but it is also a little too scary if I mess it up.] Next, I thought about EC2/Lightsail. I am not sure how configurable the Lightsail setup is and EC2 can get expensive so I am hesitant. I am okay with paying $50-60/year, which means I can get shared CPU from places like Namecheap or Digital Ocean (droplet?) as well but I don't know if they can do everything I can do on a Raspberry Pi. What would make the most sense for my use case?
