Endpoint security reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WolfoGaming1 · 2023-10-05 09:23 Hi, for school we have a project that requires an end-point security. We have been searching around for some time and have only found paid services that aren't able to be hosted on-site. Does anyone know of any open source or free endpoint security solutions that are preferably self-hosted? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Arcau1 · 2023-10-05 10:49 The only one I have even ever heard of is Wazuh - Unsure if that has changed but it used to be open source at least. Might fit the bill for what you are looking for but as far as selfhosted end point protection - that is a really interesting concept at least. Most companies are doing everything they can to move away from self hosted / on-prem systems from my experience. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mandonovski · 2023-10-05 11:11 Wazuh is still open source and free. But it's SIEM solution, not endpoint security. I know that ESET has on-prem, haven't checked lately BitDefender if it has on-prem, or the others AV vendors. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ovizii · 2023-10-05 11:44 What OS are your endpoints running? If Windows I think the free Windows Defender does a very good job. What are your requirements? Do you need centralized management or insights? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Boomam · 2023-10-05 11:48 Probably going to be useful to define what problem you are trying to solve, as "endpoint security" could mean a lot of things and may not be the best solution. As an example, "traditional" definitions of endpoint security is inherently on-prem, as it's physically installed on each computer. So I can only assume you need the control plane/dashboard to be on-prem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Affectionate-Fig-805 · 2023-10-05 12:53 Yes, ESET still has on-prem and still one of the best endpoint security imho. Unfortunately, due to global direction, we migrated to Symantec which is also good albeit the false positives. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TomLutris · 2023-10-05 23:59 Crowdsec sounds like something you might be interested in. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MechaZombie23 · 2023-10-06 03:53 Check out the Blue Spawn project on Github
