What now? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BeowolfSchaefer · 2023-10-04 22:47 After losing a drive and not being able to resurrect a volume from a software RAID I'm switching tactics. I have pretty much everything that was in there backed up to an external drive and also the old server. I have an HP mini PC with an attached USB-C 5 bay enclosure. It has one 4TB SSD and 4x10TB drives. One of those 10TB died and I have 2 replacements on the way. The HP mini is running Ubuntu. I think I'd like to move to a ZFS setup. \- Does that make sense? \- does ZFS have any advantages with an SSD cache drive or does it even support it? \- Are there any good guides on configuring something this? \- Is there a good monitoring app/service for this? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- borouhin · 2023-10-05 01:08 It's possible (google for "L2Arc"), but your bottleneck will most likely be the USB-C connection between your enclosure and your PC. So I doubt that adding SSD cache will greatly increase performance in your case.
