Need Help with Slow VPN Speeds on My Ubuntu Server - Seeking Solutions! reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DJOCKERr ยท 2023-10-04 19:32 Hello fellow Redditors, I'm in a bit of a jam here and could really use some advice. A few years ago, I converted my old desktop PC into an Ubuntu server, and it's been humming along just fine. I've set up Docker and Portainer, along with a couple of Pi-holes (one for a private VPN and one for the local router), two WireGuard VPNs with specific container access, and a bunch of other lightweight services. The issue I'm facing is that recently, my VPN speeds have become frustratingly slow. I noticed this when I installed LibreSpeed, a small container for speed testing on the server, which consistently gave me dismal results. Even when I tested the speed on my device through the VPN, it was equally sluggish, if not worse. This slowdown seems to happen randomly. To temporarily fix it, I have to remotely restart my router and then restart the server. This gets my speeds back to normal for a few hours before the problem resurfaces. Occasionally, switching or restarting the VPNs has helped, but not always. I suspect it might be my network card, but I'm unable to verify this since I'm currently out of the country and can't access the server physically. Strangely, when these issues occur, I can still smoothly stream 2K video from my CCTV cameras, even with all four of them running simultaneously. Any ideas on what might be causing this and how to fix it? Your insights would be greatly appreciated!
